277 Days a Priest by Father Ryan Browne

When I pray the Prayer of Absolution over someone, I recognise that I’m also a sinner and not worthy to be God’s minister of forgiveness. At the same time I also yearn for the time when I can go to confession and receive the same mercy and forgiveness.

Just as St Francis did through humility, charity, and love for God, we too are invited to spread the Gospel through simple acts of kindness and witness in our daily lives. Whether known or unknown, young or old, every believer can become a sign of God’s love in the world.

During the celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi, pilgrims from around the world gathered in Assisi to honour the saint whose life continues to inspire Christians everywhere.

The relics of St Carlo Acutis have arrived to our Cathedral. A welcome Mass was celebrated by Bishop Philip. Tomorrow 12th March veneration will continue and there will be a Schools Mass at 11am and a closing Mass at 5.30pm. St. Carlo (3 May 1991 – 12 October 2006) has been called ‘God’s influencer.’ At the age of seven, he wrote: “To be close to Jesus always, that’s my life plan.” He also wrote that “by standing before the sun you get a tan… but by standing before the Eucharistic Christ, you become holy”. For him, “the Eucharist is a highway to Heaven”, and the most powerful means to become saints quickly. Famous too is his phrase: “Everyone is born originals but many die as photocopies.” Do try to pay a visit!
