Fellowship Meeting - Tuesday 8th September

Tuesday Fellowship, a social gathering for adults meet once a fortnight on a Tuesday afternoon in the church hall. (Entrance on St Aubyns Road) The afternoon meetings commence at 2.30pm and usually finishes about 4pm.

What happens at the gatherings? There is a welcome and introduction each week and this is followed by an informative talk or activity followed by time for a cuppa and biscuits - sometimes there cake! The programme runs from Tuesday 8th September through to 15th December.

Anyone is welcome who would like some company or to make new friends. If you would like any further information please message us.

On National Food Bank Day, the URC joins with www.trussell.org.uk and other food providers to raise awareness of food insecurity and encourage donations and volunteering at local food banks.

A prayer for National Food Bank Day

Caring God,
who created a world that was good,
and harvests that were sufficient,
you provided manna to the hungry,
and took pity on the needy and weary.

As food banks open their doors again today,
we offer our thanks for all who strive to end food insecurity –
for volunteers, and food doners, and campaigners,
for politicians and health workers.
Yet we cry out, also –
‘Why, oh why?’
In a world of plenty,
in nations with great wealth,
we weep for the injustices of inequality
and for dignity worn down by handouts.
We pray for the day when Food Banks are no more,
when all know what ‘enough’ looks like,
and when your love-through-action
is seen on tables with food to share
and in heads held high.
Amen.

As we approach the first weekend of September (Sunday 6th) we shall be joining with our sister churches - Hounsom Memorial URC and Central URC for worship at Central United Reformed Church Blatchington Road, Hove. The service commences at 10.30am. All are welcome to join us. There will be no service at Portslade but we will be back there on Sunday 13th.

As we enter September we offer a warm invitation to anyone who would like to meet some new people or just to take some time for yourself - over a cuppa, be it tea, coffee or just plain simple water. If this is you we meet together for a time of friendship on a Wednesday morning at Portslade United Reformed Church on Station Road.

Wednesday Welcome is open to all - just come as you are. The church is served by bus no’s 1, 1X, 6 and 16. You will find us just below New Church Junction.
