Here is an adaptation of the prayer of St Francis, which we used in our service this morning.

Heavenly Father, we cry out to you for our country and ask that you make us instruments of Your peace.
Where there is racial hatred, help us to sow Your love.
Where there is injury, help us to heal and bring pardon.
Where there is discord, help us to bring harmony. Where there is error, and misinformation let us bring truth.
Where there is doubt that we are all your children, let us bring faith;
Where there is despair, let us bring hope;
Where there is darkness, shine your light; and where there is sadness, help us to bring joy.
O Divine Master, grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Here’s Rev’d Iain’s sermon from today’s 11am Eucharist at St Columba’s. The gospel reading it responds to is Matthew 9:35 to 10:8. The sermon is also a response to recent racist riots in different parts of the UK. In our prayers of intercession we prayed for everyone involved in those situations.

Sunday 14th June at St Columba’s, Portree, a Eucharist Service at 11am led by the Rev’d Iain Osborne.

In Sunday’s Gospel passage from Matthew chapter 9, Jesus has compassion for the people who wander without a shepherd – a description that we might feel still applies in today’s world. Jesus responds by sending out his disciples to minister to them, and he gives them some words of advice. These instructions about what it means to be a follower of Jesus offer an invitation and a challenge for the church’s witness here and now.

We look forward to welcoming all who are able to join us.

We're looking forward to joining together for a bring-and-share lunch next Sunday. All are very welcome - particular people who know St Columba's but haven't been for a while. We have Holy Communion at 11 as usual, then some fun games, and lunch in the church rooms. This replaces the previously advertised picnic, owing to the weather! (If it turns out nice after all, we can go in the church garden.)

Latha Choluim Cille, St Columba’s Feast Day, Tuesday 9th June -
A Eucharist Service at 11am led by the Rev’d Iain Osborne.

On this day we celebrate our patronal festival, the Feast of St Columba, who died on June 9th, 597. It is a day to remember St Columba and commit to the principles of the Christian faith, and its Celtic tradition in this Diocese - spirituality, harmony and respect for all of creation.

We look forward to welcoming all who are able to join us.

Sunday 7th June at St Columba’s – a Eucharist at 11am led by the Rev’d Iain Osborne.
We are now in Ordinary Time in the Church Year, having left behind us the special festivals of Christmas, Easter and Pentecost. From now on, the Sunday readings will encourage us to live changed lives, to be transformed by God’s Holy Spirit.
Today’s Gospel reading from Matthew chapter 9 touches on healings and controversies, including the call of Matthew. Jesus sees him sitting at a tax booth, there to tax either coastal fishermen or trade travellers to Jerusalem. Jesus says to Matthew ‘Follow me’ and Matthew got up, left his post, and followed Jesus. The late Pope Francis’s motto ‘miserando atque eligendo’ was based on the story of Matthew – it roughly translates as ‘having mercy, he called him’.
We look forward to welcoming all who are able to join us.

Rev'd Iain writes: I was privileged to attend the installation yesterday of RT Rev Dagmar Winter as Bishop of Edinburgh. +Dagmar was my boss, when I was Bishop's Chaplain in Ely Diocese. It was a splendid service in St Mary's cathedral, and it was good to join my prayers with many others for both bishop and diocese in this new chapter.

Sunday 31st May at St Columba’s, Portree, a Eucharist at 11am led by the Rev’d Iain Osborne.

On this Sunday’s festival of the Holy Trinity, we profess as Christians that we believe in one God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God gives life as creator, shares our life as Jesus and empowers our life as Holy Spirit.

We look forward to welcoming all who are able to join us.
