Steve Turner’s observation on the Church.

The church humbles us. It is one of the few places in our societies today where we sit with rich and poor, young and old, black and white, educated and uneducated, and are focused on the same object. It is one of the few places where we share the problems and hopes of our lives with people we may not know. It is one of the few places where we sing as a crowd. Although the church needs its outsiders to prevent it from drifting into dull conformity, the outsiders need the church to stop them from drifting into individualized religion.

Don't chase the lure.

The Devil never rolls through the front door of your life announcing he’s going to destroy you.

He doesn’t show you a picture of yourself eighteen months from now living alone in a rented room because you’ve lost your most trusted relationships.

He doesn’t give you a PowerPoint presentation of clear, step-by-step plans of how he’s going to bring you to your destruction.

Instead, he slips through the side door. He lures and entices you. It’s like fishing.

We have to constantly watch out for the Devil’s lures.

When that temptation or harmful thought comes our way, it’s probably not going to look bad—not at first.

Initially it promises something good.

Sin offers a solution.
Sin guarantees relief.

If you’re down, sin brings you up.
If you’re stuck, sin shows the way out.
If you’re miserable, sin promises comfort.
If you’re outraged, sin offers the perfect justice. If you’re lonely, sin becomes your best friend.

All lies.

All that feigned goodness, all those false solutions, all the relief, all the comfort, all the justice, all the camaraderie.

All those promises are meaningless.

Sin is not your pal.
Sin is not on your side.
Sin doesn’t have your back.
Sin is never the fix it claims to be.
Sin is a mirage, always overpromising and underdelivering.

The Enemy works in your life by luring and lying.

He promises things he can’t deliver.
He challenges God’s truth.
He attacks God’s character and intentions.

The Enemy says things such as, Surely God’s holding out on you—you can’t trust him.

He essentially told Eve, If you eat from this fruit, your eyes will be opened; you’ll be like God.

The Enemy appeals to your basic human needs.

We all have the needs for acceptance, worth, satisfaction, and happiness.

The Enemy constantly holds out a lure and offers a lie: Hey, this is what you need to fulfill your needs. Take a bite. You deserve to be happy.

Don’t fall for the lies.
Don’t chase the lure.
Don’t give the Enemy a seat at your table.

Due to such positive feedback from the villagers who came along to our Harvest Community tea in September, we are delighted to let you know that we are going to have monthly Community Teas until the end of March in Portgordon Village Hall from
2 -4pm. These are free events so come along for freshly made pancakes, scones and home bakes and enjoy some company as we head into the Winter months. Look forward to seeing you ❤️

This Sunday, we dove deep into 1 Peter 2 and discovered the beautiful truth of our identity. You

priesthood, and a holy nation. When we come to Jesus—the living stone—we are transformed
from wanderers into living stones, built together into a spiritual house. Your belonging isn’t
something you have to earn or chase; it is a gift given by the One who calls you out of darkness
