Ghazal Marzban (42), a Christian convert from Islam in Iran (photo), was given a harsh 9-year prison sentence for “propaganda against the state” and “gathering and collusion against national security.”

“She was sentenced by Revolutionary Court judge Iman Afshari, who is known for handing down harsh sentences to many Christians and political prisoners.”

Previously in December 30, 2024 Ghazal “was sentenced to six months of imprisonment and 74 lashes for the propaganda charge, but not wearing a hijab charge was dropped.”

Ghazal’s husband, also a Christian convert, suffers from Parkinson’s Disease. It is unclear how he will be cared for while Ghazal is in prison.

Lord Jesus, our hearts cry out to You for the terrible punishment and extreme injustice against Ghazal. Only You can deliver and save her and her husband. May Ghazal receive excellent legal representation. Provide for her husband’s needs while she is away. Protect Ghazal from harm, keep her healthy and her faith strong. May the Holy Spirit be her comfort in miraculous ways as she languishes in prison. Use her to share the hope of Jesus with other women she is with. Convict this unrighteous judge, Iman Afshari, who issues these harsh and unfounded prison sentences. May Ghazal’s case be appealed before a favorable judge. All for Your glory in Iran.

“Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the Lord.” – Psalm 31:24

Valerie has a great quote from her dad, Jim Elliot~

Interesting quote I found in my dad's journal:
NOVEMBER 30 Perilous days in international affairs. Red menace in Korea and Red diplomats in Lake Success have the sterile capitalists of the Western powers trembling. What children we soft, ease-loving Westerners appear in the face of the craft and steel-hearted purpose of the Red East. American impotency is in her homes where pleasure and money have vitiated patriotic principles and moral stamina. We have too long under the idealistic flag of Plenty, while the masses of Asia have learned hardness and intensity of feeling under the bitter ensign of Want; America refused to share her surplus; now she is forced to give account to the multitudes whose drawn cheeks paled as American food splashed to rot into the seas and rivers. It is only just. Would that the threat were terrifying enough to make realists of us! So that we would feel the helplessness of Hezekiah before the defiant Rabshakeh and turn to God for consolation, rather than to our industry! It is a time for weeping and repentance, not diplomacy. O God, turn my people. Send a spirit of breaking and contrition to her leaders, tremor and humiliation to the false pride of her people.”
