THE MIRACLE OF THE NEW BIRTH — DAY 6

6. THE NEW BIRTH COMES THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

Imagine someone drowning at sea. A lifeboat arrives and a rescuer reaches out to save them.

The person doesn't need to become a better swimmer. They need to trust the one who has come to rescue them!

That is a wonderful picture of salvation.

Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again. He has done what we could never do for ourselves.

John 1:12 tells us that those who believe in Jesus and receive him become children of God.

Saving faith begins when we stop trusting ourselves and place our trust in Jesus.

THE MIRACLE OF THE NEW BIRTH — DAY 4

4. THE NEW BIRTH CANNOT BE PRODUCED BY HUMAN EFFORT

We often think that becoming a Christian means trying harder, giving up bad habits or becoming a better person.

But Jesus offers something much greater than self-improvement.

Imagine painting a piece of rotten wood. It might look wonderful on the outside, but the rot remains underneath.

Our spiritual problem is much the same. Changing outward behaviour cannot deal with the deeper problem of sin.

The Bible says that anyone who belongs to Christ becomes a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Jesus doesn't simply renovate our old lives. He gives us a completely new life!

THE MIRACLE OF THE NEW BIRTH — DAY 3

3. THE NEW BIRTH CANNOT BE INHERITED

Having Christian parents or grandparents is a wonderful privilege. Growing up attending Sunday school, learning Bible stories and going to church can provide a tremendous foundation for life.

But nobody can become a Christian simply because their family is Christian.

John 1:13 explains that God's children are born not through natural descent, but through God himself.

An old illustration says that being born in a garage doesn't make you a car! Equally, being raised in church doesn't automatically make you a Christian.

Faith cannot be inherited. We must each personally respond to Jesus Christ. Have you?

THE MIRACLE OF THE NEW BIRTH — DAY 2

2. THE NEW BIRTH IS SUPERNATURAL

Becoming a Christian is not simply turning over a new leaf or deciding to live a better life. It is experiencing something wonderful that only God can do!

The Bible describes believers as being “born of God” (John 1:13).

Jesus compared the Holy Spirit to the wind. We cannot see the wind itself, but we can certainly see its effects.

In the same way, when God's Spirit brings new life, things begin to change. Our desires, attitudes, priorities and relationships are transformed.

Christianity isn't just about changing how we behave. It's about God changing who we are!

THE MIRACLE OF THE NEW BIRTH — DAY 1

1. THE NEW BIRTH IS NECESSARY

Jesus told Nicodemus, a respected religious leader, “You must be born again” (John 3:7).

Nicodemus was educated, moral and knowledgeable about Scripture, yet Jesus said he needed something more: new life from God.

Our deepest problem is not simply that we sometimes do wrong. Sin has separated us from God.

We can improve our behaviour, attend church and appear respectable, but none of these things can give us spiritual life.

Like a car with a dead battery, polishing the outside cannot supply the power within.

The question is personal: Have you been born again?

Come Back to Church This Sunday! The Call to Christian Worship
In Hebrews 10:22, God invites us to draw near to Him. Christian worship is not simply attending a service, singing hymns or following a religious routine. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the way into God’s presence has been opened for us. We come not because we are worthy, but because Christ has made the way. Worship begins when we recognise who Jesus is and respond to Him with gratitude, reverence and surrender. God created us for fellowship with Himself, and nothing else can truly satisfy the deepest need of the human heart. Today, hear His invitation: “Let us draw near.”

For a long time I believed I had to earn my worth. Climb higher, push harder, and maybe then I would finally be enough.

It is an exhausting way to live. There is always another summit, another test, another way you have fallen short. You never quite arrive.

The thing that finally set me free was grace.

Grace is the wild, almost unbelievable idea at the very heart of the Christian faith. That we are already loved, fully and completely, not for what we have achieved, but in spite of every way we fall short. That Jesus meets us exactly as we are, mess and all, and calls us friend anyway.

I did not have to become impressive for God to love me. I did not have to summit anything. I simply had to stop striving long enough to accept a gift I could never have earned in a thousand lifetimes.

And that truth changed how I see everyone else too. If I am loved like that, undeserving and all, then so is the person in front of me. It makes you gentler, slower to judge, quicker to forgive.

We are so hard on ourselves, and so hard on each other. Grace is the medicine for both.
