Now that autumn is here, school is back, and minds turn towards preparing for celebrations at the end of the year, have you wondered about why we celebrate Christmas, what's the story behind it?

Why don't you come along to our fortnightly Bible study at Hope Penuel Presbyterian Church in Pontyclun, on Tuesdays as 2.30 p.m., starting today, and get to know the events leading up to Advent. Let this be the beginning of a wonderful journey for you.

No previous knowledge is needed and all questions are welcome.

If you would like to read ahead, these are the passages we are going to be reading from today up to the 15th of December.

Please note, we will not be meeting on the 6th of October as I have commitments elsewhere, my apologies.

It's always a joy to get together on the first Monday of each month and sort children's clothes packs for Gobaith Clothing .

If you would like to join us, come along next month, on Monday 5th October at 10.30 a.m. and lend a hand, we would love to have you. And if you have excellent quality children or teens clothes you would like to donate, bring them with you.

Gobaith Clothing accepts donations of really excellent quality clothing because as a work of love of the Eglwys Bresbyteraidd Cymru - The Presbyterian Church of Wales we strongly believe that just because someone has a time of need does not mean that just anything will do. We want to share of what we have with love and care to our siblings who have a little less. We want to meet people's need with dignity and offer something to the same standard we would use ourselves. We know you will feel the same.

Come along and join us for the first musical coffee morning we have had in awhile. These have always been very popular, with great singing and wonderful homemade cakes.
On Saturday 12th of September we will be joined by the wonderful Sabrina, from jUKebox. Sabrina is always a joy, so come along and enjoy a great morning.

Join us at Hope Penuel on the 3rd Friday of each month, beginning 18th September 4.30 - 6.00 p.m., for stories, crafts, music and the chance to talk about faith and ask questions in a safe place.
Come along, bring your children, and fun as we learn about God and how he loves us, together.

Life can be overwhelming and stressful.

Why not take the opportunity to come into the quiet of the open church.

Hope Penuel Presbyterian Church will be open every Thursday morning between 10.30 a.m. and 12.00 noon from 10th September.

You can sit quietly by yourself and just rest, pray on your own, or join me.

Or we can have a quiet conversation where you can share what's on your mind in the security of knowing that your concerns are held and heard.

Bible studies return at Hope Penuel Presbyterian Church, Pontyclun, on a new day, fortnightly on Tuesdays, beginning 8th September at 2.30 p.m.

We have a relaxed and welcoming group discussion. You don't need any prior knowledge and we welcome your questions.

This autumn we will be approaching Advent, thinking about the readings that make up the traditional Carol Service as we look forward to celebrating the birth of our Saviour.

Firstly we will look at why God came to Earth. Then read through some prophecies, and as Advent gets closer, read the nativity story together.

Why not, as Jesus himself called his first followers, "come and see ..."

Why not join us at Hope Penuel Presbyterian Church in the autumn, the year's second start, for some of our activities, or maybe all! Why not!

We have worship every Sunday and absolutely everyone is very warmly welcome.

From the 8th we will be starting our Bible studies again, every fortnight. These are fun, friendly and we have a good conversation about various portions of Scripture. From September we will be looking at the readings we will encounter in the traditional Carol service, 9 readings for 9 lessons, come and see what the Christmas story is all about.

Every Thursday, bar where I am away, the church will be open to come in, sit in quiet, pray, think or have a chat with me.

On the 3rd Friday of each month we will have Family Fridays beginning on the 18th from 4.30 - 6.00 p.m., with the help of the Presbyterian Church of Wales' wonderful children and youth worker, Robyn. Come and meet God and learn about faith together with your family in a safe space.

On Saturday 12th we will have a Coffee Morning with musical entertainment from the wonderful Sabrina, from jUKebox. Sabrina is always a joy, so come along and enjoy her wonderful singing along with some great homemade cakes and refreshments. Just give what you can.

Everyone is very welcome to all of these.

From 17th May, the Sunday after Ascension, to Saturday 23rd May, the day before Pentecost, the Presbyterian Church of Wales invites you to join with us in our annual National Week of Prayer.

Prayer is at the heart of our Christian life, so please do make time during this week to join with fellow Christians throughout Wales and bring the needs of your hearts, of our country of our world before the throne of the Living God, who longs to hear and to answer.

Amazing work again, well done Gobaith Clothing and everyone at yesterday's distribution.

This is God's love in practical action.

I am so happy we can be involved in even a small way to share what we have where it is needed.

Hope Penuel will get together again on Monday, from 10.30 a.m. to sort some more clothes. Pop along and give a hand if you are able, we would love to see you. We will even make you a cuppa to whet your whistle while we're at it.

Here, indeed is love.
