Monthly Requiem

Thursday Evening's Mass at 7pm will be a requiem to pray for those who have died since our last monthly requiem and those whose anniversary falls this month.

Many people, young and old, will be returning to schools, colleges and universities this week and in the coming weeks. Please pray for all pupils and staff as the new academic year begins. Pray especially for those for whom the long summer holidays were not peaceful or stable, that the new term may bring comfort, security and stability. +Stephen

The Festival of Creation in Christ
In response to a growing ecumenical movement across churches worldwide, the Church of England has inaugurated a new feast: Creation in Christ. It offers an opportunity for Christians to give thanks for God's creation and redemption of the world, to reflect on humanity's responsibility to care for the natural world and to pray for its renewal. The title ‘Creation in Christ’ emphasises that creation is understood through the person and work of Jesus Christ: created through him, sustained in him and destined for renewal in him. In the CofE the new feast will ordinarily be assigned to the first Sunday in September each year. However when a Festival falls on a Sunday it may be kept on that day or a suitable weekday at the discretion of the minister. Whilst lauding the aims of the feast Fr Robert does not think it is pastorally appropriate to introduce at the moment a new feast on a Sunday at S Helen's. We shall therefore observe the feast on 1 September which is already designated a day of global prayer “for the Care of Creation.” So on Tuesday please remember this important theme in your prayers.

A collect for the new feast:
Almighty Father,
who called into being all things in Christ,
your only begotten Son,
grant, we pray,
that filled with the life-giving breath of your Spirit,
we may ever love and care for the work of your hands:
through Jesus Christ, your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and ever. Amen.

Saturday Night Reminder
Before you rest this evening, don’t forget: tomorrow is the Day of the Lord!
Make Sunday truly holy by joining the Sacrifice of the Mass. It is there we encounter Christ in the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith.

We have Sunday Masses at 8.00am and 9.45am. During the 9.45am Mass we also have our Children's group. At 5pm there will also be a Mass at Archbishop Holgate Hospital in Hemsworth

Happy Feast of the Assumption!

In his sermon today Fr Robert reflected on how Our Lady as the Ark of the New Covenant having been assumed body and soul into heaven is now a warrior queen who leads the cosmic battle.

Almighty God,
who looked upon the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and chose her to be the mother of your only Son:
grant that we who are redeemed by his blood
may share with her in the glory of your eternal kingdom;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Tomorrow we celebrate the wonderful feast of Our Lady's Assumption.

The feasts contain the central promise of faith in the resurrection of the body and in eternal life is already accomplished in Mary, Queen of Heaven, who is the sign of sure hope and comfort.

We have Sunday Masses at 8.00am and 9.45am (during which we have our children's group) at Saint Helen's Church, Hemsworth We do hope you will join us.

Happy day of the Lord.

In his sermon, today, Fr Robert talked about the presence of God in peace, thanksgiving and new life.

God of all power,
your sovereign word comes to us in Christ.
When your Church is in danger, make firm our trust;
when your people falter, steady our faith.
Show us in Jesus your power to save,
that we may always acclaim him as Lord,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
