Hi everyone, there have been a number of questions in various forums and meetings over the past few weeks about what is happening with the Derriford Church Hall, so here is a quick update. Firstly though, can I say a massive thank you for all the interest that has been shown and also an apology that things are taking a long time to complete. However, I guess, like any large development, it does take time. But please be assured that we (the church) are as frustrated as everyone else with the time things are taking. We really don’t want the building sitting doing nothing.
The history is, that just after lockdown the hall was condemned because of flooding and other issues and we were told we could not use it for health and safety reasons. Since then we have been looking at what is the best way forward and what we should do with it and in fact with the whole site.
The current plan is to have a purpose built church / community centre which is fit for purpose for today and for many years ahead. We really don’t want to build something that will only last the next 10 or even 20 years. The links should give you plenty of information about what this new building may look like. We have had the plans in to the council planning department, who have been fabulous in their help and advice and who were, in general, very positive about the plans. We have a couple internal questions that we have to answer but then we hope to start the full planning application process, which in itself is a fairly ‘meaty’ piece of work. Once we start that we will then need to start looking at funding for this fairly major project and of course we will be hoping that folks from the community will get involved in that process too!
My hope is that as soon as we get these internal questions sorted, we will look to have an open day/evening where everyone will be invited to look at the plans and to ask questions and make suggestions.
Again thank you for your interest and please if you want any more information please don’t hesitate to email me on [email protected]

Every Blessing

Mark (Minister of Derriford Church)

Hi Folks, I would like to share that at Derriford church's Welcome Wednesday next week (21st January) at 2pm we have the Police coming to talk about "Cyber Awareness". They will help us all identify scams and scammers both online and over the phone. Something which is getting more and more problematic every day! Do come along if you can make it. I have also attached a flyer.

Hi Folks, don't forget that tomorrow (the 13th January) at 2pm it is our Community Film Afternoon at Derriford Church. The film we will be watching is the 1998 real life comedy starring Robin Williams about an unorthodox doctor (played by Robin Williams) who clashes with his superiors over the best way to treat his patients. For our doctor the happiness of his patients is paramount and he will go to almost any length to keep them laughing... It's a great film not to be missed (even if you have seen it before!). And of course there will be plenty of hot dogs etc and tea and coffee. See you tomorrow.

We will also have plenty of "Christmasy" treats to eat and enjoy!

Bless you

We are watching the film starring Martin Sheen who plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to France to collect his adult son's remains who was killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking The Camino de Santiago. Driven by his profound sadness and desire to understand his lost son, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage, leaving his California life behind....
