Another lovely Quiet Spaces at St Anne's this morning where we reflected on 'Creationtide' or the 'Season of Creation'. We focused mainly on the wonder of Creation, but we also discussed how we need to show respect. Thanks so much to Judy for leading with me, Janet L for doing the refreshments, and Linda O for her fabulous singing bowl.
We looked at the vast subject of Creation in the light of its wonders, along with questioning our care and respect for it. Genesis tells us that we are to care for the world and all its creatures, but do we? St Francis naturally comes to mind - His radical reverence for the natural world—viewing nature not as a resource to be exploited, but as a sister and a fellow worshiper of God—has made him the patron saint of ecologists.
The poet John O’Donohue writes about the beauty of the world and profoundly states ‘When beauty becomes an acquisition it brings no delight’ Have we commodified nature?
