VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!

Do you have a couple of hours a month to spare? Why not volunteer at our NEW Singing By Heart Dementia Friendly Group!!

We are looking to build a team of volunteers & hosts for this new group that we plan to start in the New Year. We plan to host this on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month (opposite Thursdays to Christchurch Dementia Cafe) this means there will be something every Thursday for those living with dementia and their carers.

All of our team will receive online training -
An Introduction to Dementia - Mon 5th Oct 7pm
Dementia Don’t Forget Me - Mon 19th Oct 7pm (optional)
Singing By Heart Training - Mon 9th Nov 7pm

Volunteers will – build relationships, join in the singing, register attendees, organise name badges, hand out books, be hosts to make drinks, etc

To be part of this amazing team please email us at [email protected] or call us - to request a volunteer pack.

Singing By Heart, is for those living with dementia and their carers. It’s not a dementia choir

The power of music, especially singing, to unlock memories is an increasingly key feature of dementia care as it seems to access parts of the brain that remain unaffected by the progression of dementia.

‘Singing By Heart’ uses a mixture of secular and religious songs which span the decades. Every song is introduced by a relevant scripture verse and concluded with a prayer. The sessions are designed to encourage communication, recollection of memories, and fun for those taking part. It is also hoped carers will find the sessions beneficial through enabling time for them to relax, make friends and share experiences.

"We had a great time at Messy Church on Sunday, celebrating Pentecost - (a bit late). We watched a Lego video, sang songs and had fun with our crafts - making kites; football flags (England of course); Pentecost wands and coasters; dove decorations; blow painting; a Pentecost collage; decorating flame cakes; some great Lego creations. After tasty hot dogs, we had a big cake with a candle to celebrate the birthday of the church and finally ice lollies. Thank you Lord that your church continues today."

At Messy Church today we thought about why Jesus died on the Cross and we made a collage celebrating Jesus being alive. We did several butterfly crafts, thinking how Jesus can change us into something beautiful; also scratch art crosses and bookmarks revealing the lovely colours under the black surface. Our food craft reminded us of the stone rolled away. We finished as usual with a delicious meal and ice cream!
