*CAFOD: Progress on this summer’s Global Debt Crisis Petition: We have received petitions from almost 300 churches so far, totalling over 15,000 signatures. Thank you for being one of those parishes that took part. We will communicate the results to our government at the end of the year,
as they take over the presidency of the G20. We did a similar petition last year calling for debt justice which we delivered to the Foreign Office. We want to build on that success and ensure that the government knows we won’t give up! Our petition will add to the global campaign from church
groups, bishops, economists and others, increasing the pressure on those in power to act. We have also hosted a series of Parliamentary events for politicians to hear about the detail of the debt crisis.
In July, the UN Global Goals and the Friends of CAFOD, had a joint meeting to discuss this crisis.
CAFOD was represented alongside Her Excellency Ms Macenje Mazoka, High Commissioner of Zambia to the UK, to discuss the role the UK can take to alleviate the crisis when hosting the G20 in 2027.
