Happy new year from Hemington Natural Burial. 2025 was a big year for us. This time last year we were finally able to start work on the burial ground. And from the first spade in the ground in February, opening in May, and to our Christmas service in December it has been an adventure. I’m excited to see what 2026 has in store for the Burial Ground and how the site will continue to transform as it matures.

It’s National Tree Week and trees have made up most of our work this week. Unfortunately we have been taking out diseased and dead trees in the woodland next to the burial ground.

This work will ensure the woodland walk, due to open in the spring, is safe for people to use.

We have a relatively large population of mature Elm trees but many are losing the fight to Dutch Elm disease. We are very sad to lose some of these trees which are now scarce but once dominated our countryside.

The good news is the felling of these dead trees will make space for the young trees to thrive and these will be supplemented with new plantings.

Thanks to Tj’s tree care and firewood for your help with this.

It was a pleasure working with Eternity Funeral Services (even if I don't enjoy being filmed!). As a local, family-run funeral directors, they bring something special.

Was a pleasure to work with Matthew and Katie on this. Thank you for thinking of me and it’s fantastic to see another family business thrive!

I am pleased to invite you, your friends and family to our Christmas Remembrance Service on Sunday 14th of December at 2:30pm. I’m hoping for nice weather and to hold the service at the burial ground itself. I will notify you of a wet weather plan should we need.

There will be a short service led by Sid Bridges a celebrant from Prodigal Ceremonies and co-founder of Grief Aware.

Afterwards there will be some refreshments in the warm.

A busy day yesterday for installing the new chestnut fencing at the burial ground. Chestnut fencing does not need to be treated by chemicals as it has a natural resistance to rot and decay.

This week we have made a start on the memorial bulb planting. This is one option available to families looking for a stunning and environmentally sustainable memorial for loved ones. In spring these will start to put on a show as well as provide vital food source for pollinators. The bulbs planted here are native bulbs, different from varieties found in garden centres.

It’s been a gloomy day in Hemington… but if you choose to look a little closer there is lots of colour to be seen.
