Give attention to prayer
Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray - Mark 6:45-46.
Jesus’ next destination in this story is Bethsaida (the other side). His disciples are on their way there but He himself first must take a different route; He must pray first. No matter the pressure to go to the other side, He must first go to the mountain, because prayer will bring you to your desired destination. The one who prays will arrive at the other side quicker than the one who doesn’t give attention to prayer.
Those who neglect effectual prayer because it may take their time or delay their journey to the other side, may still be toiling and rowing in the middle of the sea of life in the evening of their lives (Mark 6:48). Please give attention to prayer.
Those who take a detour to the mountain to pray like Jesus may not set out at the same time with those who rush out to the other side, but surely, they will always arrive first. And those who rush out without taking time to pray will depend on those who have prayed for help in the middle of the storm.
The storm of life is no respecter of persons. It had the audacity to rise against the ship which carried the maker of the seas and oceans (Mark 4:39). But prayer will equip you for the storm and bring you through it. Through prayer, we are able to deal with every contrary wind.
When the disciples left for the other side, there was yet no visible storm, so they must have seen no need to join the Lord’s prayer meeting but a praying man/woman will foresee danger by the help of the Holy Spirit and hide or prepare himself/herself (Proverbs 22:3).
Give attention to prayer, not mere religious exercise but effectual fervent prayer through the Holy Spirit’s help. Wake up and pray. Do not contract prayer, rise up yourself and pray. Another man’s prayer can only take you so far. Learn from Peter’s example (Matthew 14:28-32).
What is your desired next destination, spend time to pray and no storm, no matter its intensity will be able to stop you.
Give attention to prayer because the Lord Jesus did.
