Just a warning to those of our congregation that come from Forty Green and Knotty Green.

Work to replace the gas main along the B474 Witheridge Lane and Church Road from Clay Street to Penn has started and will last 15 weeks. Expect minor delays as temporary traffic lights start at the southern end and make their way up as the work progresses.

The start of the autumn term brings Heritage Open Days and as usual, Holy Trinity will be partaking. This time we are open on Sunday 13th from 2-5pm with cakes and teas and Miles Green will once again be on hand to answer history questions. The church is nearly 900 years old and so has some remarkable history. Do come and have a look round. For motor racing fans, we have the graves of several notable drivers from the early days of racing and they will be marked in the graveyard along with the famous and notorious.

Come along and enjoy our games and activities.

Update: Wednesday the road is open.

The field on Gravelly Way opposite Crown Lane is burnt and some trees and bushes scorched but the Fire Brigade and the farm manager did a wonderful job in ensuring that it didn't spread to woods or houses. Thank you Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Penn House Estate

Update 4pm : The fire is under control but Gravelly Way is closed for now.

We have been alerted that the Fire Brigade are attending a fire in the fields at Penn Bottom.

Just a reminder that Geoff and Hope will be talking to us this Sunday at 6pm in Holy Trinity. As Revd Samuel writes in this week's newsletter:

"One of the main places where Angels feature regularly is in the Eucharistic Prayer when we introduce the Sanctus: Therefore with Angels and Archangels and all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, forever praising you and saying/singing:

Holy Holy Holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come.
Hosanna in the highest!"

How many of us stop and think about that? Was Shakespeare right when he wrote in Hamlet, “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in our philosophy.”?

All are most welcome to join us to hear about Geoff and Hope Price's work in Rwanda. If you've ever wanted to know what a modern missionary does, come and here their talk on 9 August at 6pm in Holy Trinity Church, Penn. (Geoff and Hope used to live in Paul's Hill and may therefore be known to some of you.)

Wine/Juice will be available after the talk.

Those of you who have followed Ron Hedley's walks raising awareness of and funds for prostate cancer my be interested to know that he appears in the BBC's Songs of Praise this Sunday, 9 August. He assures me that he is walking in the Essex countryside with a group of cricketers rather than singing in church although I am sure he has an excellent voice! It's 1:15pm on Sunday and is available on the BBC iPlayer.

This August we’re going to have a trio of sessions Exploring the Bible. Whether we’ve read it before or are coming to it with fresh eyes, we hope to introduce you to the Bible afresh, asking ourselves: What is the Bible? Where did it come from? How do we read and engage with it today?

It’s my hope that these sessions will be good ones to invite friends and neighbours along to who don’t necessarily know much about the Bible. However, I think that it will also be of interest to those who know their Bible’s well, and everyone in between.
