St James the Less Episcopal Church, Penicuik

St James the Less Episcopal Church, Penicuik Are you inquiring, seeking, confident in your faith or quite shaky? We welcome you just as you are, a child of God.

We seek to help all grow in faith, love and action. Registered Scottish Charity: St James Episcopal Church Penicuik, SC011288 Our Vision: ‘Growing in faith, love and action’
Using the gifts God has given us, we shall continually work to be a more welcoming, loving and caring church family, and to be a source of light and hope to our neighbours. We commit to being more Christ-like in all we do. We

welcome all who wish to explore the Christian faith. We worship in the Anglican tradition, with a relaxed style of worshipping together whilst holding our traditions as a Scottish Episcopal Church. We have a liberal approach, exploring scripture and how our faith shapes our lives. We invite people to think for themselves, not to leave their brain at the door when they come in. We have a robed choir and an organ which is used for most of our services, excepting a second Sunday in the month. We run a Young Church in the Church Hall on the third Sunday of each month and have materials available every week for younger people to engage with at other times. We provides services for baptism, weddings (including same-sex), and funerals in our beautiful church.

To accompany this we shall be running a six-week faith development course (on Monday mornings or Tuesday evenings), and also showing four mainstream films that have forgiveness as their theme n a Wednesday afternoon.

This Saturday, 12th September, our church will be open from 10am - 4pm for Doors Open Day 2026.

Opened in 1882, St James the Less has held a significant place in the history of Penicuik. Our beautiful church features lovely stained glass windows, operational organ, bell tower (with church bell!) and a lovely wooden carved rood screen. We still welcome worshippers for services throughout the week today.

Pop in and look around, perhaps learn something new about local history and have a cup of tea and some home baking to recharge! All are welcome - up the 'English Lane' at 23 Broomhill Road, Penicuik.

As per usual on the third Sunday of the month at 5pm we hold a service of Prayers in the style of Taizé - a reflective service with simple chants and a time of silence.
Why not come along and check us out.
