A Back to School Prayer

As the children of Our Lady & All Saints Catholic Primary School return to school, we keep them, their families and all the staff in our prayers.

Loving God,
bless our children as they begin a new school year.
Fill them with excitement to learn, courage to try new things, and kindness towards everyone they meet.

Bless their teachers and all who work in our school.
Give them patience, wisdom and joy as they help every child to learn, grow and flourish.

Be close to those who may feel worried or uncertain, especially those beginning school for the very first time. May they quickly discover friendship, happiness and a true sense of belonging.

May Our Lady and All Saints watch over our school community, and may everything we do this year help us to grow closer to you and to one another.

Amen. 🙏

Wishing everyone at Our Lady & All Saints a happy, safe and wonderful new school year!

FEAST OF ST GREGORY THE GREAT
Thursday 3 September

Today the Church celebrates St Gregory the Great – Pope and Doctor of the Church, one of the great pastors and teachers of the early Church.

Born in Rome around 540, Gregory left a successful public career and embraced monastic life before being called to serve the Church, eventually becoming Pope in 590.

St Gregory had a particular connection with our own country. He famously sent St Augustine of Canterbury and his companions to England to proclaim the Gospel, beginning a mission which would have a profound influence on the Christian history of these islands.

Gregory understood leadership as service. He described himself as “the servant of the servants of God” – a title still used by Popes today. His life reminds us that true greatness is found not in status or power, but in humility, faithfulness and loving service to others.

As we celebrate his feast, we pray especially for Pope Leo XIV, for our bishops and priests, and for all those called to leadership and service in the Church.

🙏 Prayer

God our Father,
you gave St Gregory the Great
a heart filled with love for your Church
and a desire to bring the Good News to others.

Through his prayers,
help us to be faithful witnesses to Christ,
humble in our service,
generous in our love
and courageous in sharing our faith.

Bless Pope Leo, our bishops and priests,
and all who serve your people.

May we, like St Gregory,
use the gifts you have given us
for your glory and for the good of others.

St Gregory the Great, pray for us.
Our Lady and All Saints, pray for us. 🙏
