SUNDAY 7th JUNE, 5pm London Concertante
Mozart – Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Bach – Violin Concerto in A minor
Vivaldi – La Follia
Vivaldi – The Four Seasons
The programme showcases some of the most iconic works ever written for strings. We open with Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, originally written as light outdoor evening entertainment for Vienna’s great and good, in a world where social occasions called for music that was both refined and instantly engaging. This is followed by Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor — a work of yearning and melancholy, shot through with moments of technical brilliance that let the violinist soar.
The second half is devoted to Vivaldi, beginning with his fiery La Follia, based on one of Europe’s oldest musical themes, reimagined over centuries by countless composers. Vivaldi transforms this simple ground bass into a dazzling sequence of variations, brimming with invention and virtuosity.
The evening culminates in one of the greatest masterpieces of all time — The Four Seasons. From the freshness of spring to the icy bite of winter, Vivaldi’s vivid depictions of nature remain as captivating today as they were 300 years ago.
Join us for an evening of unforgettable music performed by world-class musicians, in the stunning setting of the Abbey with the iconic stained glass windows as a backdrop.

Sunday 3rd May, 3pm. The Abbey Director of Music George McPhee will be giving an organ recital. As well as many outstanding pieces, George will be playing Ciacona in D Minor BWV 1178 by Johann Sebastian Bach. This is a newly discovered work and will be the first time it has been performed in Scotland. It promises to be an extraordinary afternoon of organ music delivered by a master of the instrument. Tickets, £10 at the door.

This years Paisley Food Festival brought out record numbers of visitors and the Abbey certainly saw quite a few of them. We had the tower open which gave those who managed all 197 steps up ( and back down ) an amazing view over the whole event. The dressing up section was very popular, as was the mouse hunt, and we think the minister has missed his vocation as he was a sales power house on the Bric a Brac stalls. The ladies of the Clositer Cafe had barely a cake or a scone left at the end of the day. A big thank you to all our volunteers who came out and made this a very successful day for the Abbey.

It's the Paisley Food Festival this weekend and although it is all happening outside, why not come and see what is happening on the inside of the Abbey this Saturday. We will be serving two tasty soups, and all the cake and coffee you could want. There will be the mouse hunt, children's crafts, dressing up costume, and you never know who you might meet...?? ,
