How do we draw near to God? Exodus 24 - pas. Zack Mathenge
- In this chapter , God introduces the key reason why he rescued them from Egypt ~ . To worship Him
- Freedom was not the only goal , God’s redemption is not just “out of”; it always includes “into”; - now that you are redeemed , what next ?
- What does it mean for a redeemed people to draw near to God?
- How do we draw near to God? Ans: through His covenant
- We have been saved into good works . God is the initiator and sustainer of the covenant
1. The covenant is confirmed
2. Moses reads it to the people, then they hear and respond
- our covenant with God does not only consist of clear instructions on how to live, but the covenant also includes “the way to achieve redemption”.
- In the Old Testament , redemption was achieved through sacrificing oxen and lambs . For us today, Jesus death on the cross is the complete sacrifice .
- Our relationship with God has grown from being slaves in Egypt or when we were non believers /sinners, to a place where we have a covenant, a relationship with God
- We have been moved from slaves to children and heirs of God’s kingdom.
- Exodus 24:12 - 17; God called Moses “higher”; it is possible to be among the people of God, but God desires to show us His full holiness for us to experience him fully . In the Old Testament , only the chosen one could approach the holy place. But through Christ Jesus, ALL of us have ACCESS, Ephesians 2:18
- Just as Moses had to be separated to receive the instructions from God, even for us, sometimes it ma y be necessary to take some time out to hear God specifically on an issue
- In the covenant we learn not to just settle for being rescued , but let us enter the covenant with God and receive Hid word
- Let us not just “know about God”; but let us seek to “know God”
