On Wednesday 2nd September, at St Mary's Church, Barton there will be a special service to license our new parish priest, the Revd Erik Heemskerk. The service will begin at 7.30pm , and will be led by Bishop Gavin Collins, and the Cowley Area Dean, The Rev Clare Hayns. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Erik’s first service will be on Sunday 6th September and this will be followed by a Bring & Share Welcome Lunch.

Do Black lives matter, Lord?
Really?

Well I suppose the lives of those in jobs we find useful matter;
where would we be without the black lives we find convenient, after all?

But black academic lives, Lord?
Do they matter?

Black academic excellence,
working class academic excellence,
refugee academic excellence,
neurodivergent academic excellence –
these are all resented; even hated;
hounded to death by jealousy, ignorance, and racism.
Honest mistakes are worked up into a moral panic designed to keep black lives in their place.

In our anger Lord, be with us
and give us the determination to change;
in our sadness comfort us
and those who mourn;
and, in our hearts Lord,
remind us that Black lives matter.
Amen.

Holiday club starts tomorrow! Praying for the children, young people, and families we will interact with. Praying for the volunteers who have given up their time to support our mission. Praying for the weather, that it's not unbearable. And praying for the Holy Spirit - to be in every session, every song, every craft, every conversation and everything we do.
