Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Oxford A vibrant church in the heart of Oxford ready to welcome you. OPEN TO GOD, OPEN TO ALL, OPEN TO YOU! Worship on Sunday is at 10.30

Our vibrant Methodist Church is in the heart of Oxford, the historic university city where John and Charles Wesley began the Methodist movement. We are open-minded in our faith and deeply committed to following Jesus Christ, and building his kingdom. We are an inclusive church: everyone is welcome, whether you are already on the Christian journey or questioning where to begin. We particularly welcome students and young people from everywhere to join our fellowship.

On Sunday Margaret, from our Knit and Stitch group, presented a new banner to the church.
The banner is very beautiful but also is symbolic of our church and worshipping community.
The text, LOVE ONE ANOTHER, is a recurring theme throughout Jesus's ministry but also sums up the ethos of the Knit and Stitch group in the way we support and care for each other as well as the wider community through the items we make and gift.
The circle of friends depicts the diversity of the group as well as the church community and the wider world.
The tree trunk symbolises the strength and stability of the core members while the branches and foliage portray how the membership ebbs and flows in skills and confidence as well as various others joining and leaving as they pass through Oxford.
It was made with love and given with love.
The group meets at church each Tuesday from 10am to 12 noon.

On one of the hottest days of the year Wesley Memorial has provided a cool space away from the heat for many people in Oxford City Centre.
We have welcomed visitors from far and near and given them a space to sit and reflect peacefully, or have a drink of cool water!

Statement on the Oxford Union invitation to Tommy Robinson
“I am deeply concerned by The Oxford Union’s decision to host Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, at its debate on Wednesday.
“Oxford is a proudly diverse, multicultural city. Whilst we are committed to free speech and open debate, that must be balanced against ensuring all our residents can live free from hatred, intimidation and harm.
“Faith leaders and members of our communities have already voiced their strong opposition to this invitation, and I stand with them. I urge the Oxford Union to reflect seriously on the consequences of its choices – not only for its own reputation, but the message this event sends about Oxford and its values.
“A large-scale security operation is being prepared, involving extensive police resources and road closures. This will cause considerable disruption for local residents and businesses, and comes at a substantial cost. The Oxford Union must meet the full costs of staging their event, rather than leaving Oxford’s taxpayers to pick up the bill.”
