ANNOUNCEMENT:
Dear Friends, I announced at services on 1st February that I intend to retire this year. I anticipate that my last Sunday will be 13th September. By then I will have been ordained for 30 years and will have been Rector of this Benefice for 14 years.

It has been a tremendous privilege to walk the journey of discipleship with you during that time; to share your lives; to serve the wider community.

There have been challenges along the way, but these have been overcome and I feel confident that I will leave the benefice in good shape and in good heart.

Thank you for your support and
friendship.

There is a process to go through to prepare for the vacancy and then to find a new Rector. Both of these tasks will involve a lot of work and the more people who can be involved the better.

Churchwardens will obviously have a key leadership role during this time. All of this will be clearly communicated to the churches and PCCs in due course.

Until September it is God’s business as usual.

The churchyard is ready for its Autumn haircut. We try to manage the churchyard for the benefit of wildlife, heritage, and the community, so work is done seasonally.

Grass is kept short in high-traffic areas like paths and entrances, but we allow other areas to grow into longer, flowering meadows, nd the result is stunning in the summer.

Many of the older gravestones have beautiful lichen colonies of great ecological value, and show the churchyard has a healthy microclimate.

Families also continue to tend their family graves, so there are sections of the churchyard which are tidier than others because they are visited more often.

The mice have returned to the vestry, shredding tissues and paper for nesting and leaving delicate 'packages' on the ledges. What’s truly baffling, though, is their surprising taste for Communion Wafers — entire bags have been emptied, and they've even chewed through the plastic box. Let’s hope they don’t develop a taste for the Communion Wine!
