Holiness is a calling for every believer. The Bible says, “Be holy, for I am holy.” If God has called us into a life of holiness, why do we not see it as a priority to live holy lives?
I remember what was said about Jesus in the book of Epistle to the Hebrews: that He loved righteousness and hated iniquity. Because of this, God anointed Him with the oil of gladness above His fellows. You see, because Jesus loved righteousness, He attained the height of sonship.
In the same way, our Father is telling us today: Be holy. Holiness is the life that the Lord has given to us. He has commanded us to live holy lives. Holiness is not merely about outward appearance—how someone dresses, covering the head, or external practices. True holiness is living the life of God that has already been given to believers.
When the life of God comes into us, it comes with the ability of God. The same power that makes God holy and righteous is at work in us. Therefore, as believers, let it not be said that there is iniquity, strife, envy, bitterness, or jealousy among us.
If you carry the mark of a believer, let those around you see the difference. Let it be evident that you carry a life that is righteous and distinct from the patterns of this world.
The Bible says in the book of Epistle to the Romans, chapter 12, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Let your mind be renewed by the Word of God so that you may live holy, just as your Father in heaven is holy.
The Bible also tells us in Epistle to the Hebrews that the sceptre of the kingdom is the sceptre of righteousness. A sceptre is a symbol of authority and rulership. Kings often carry it as a sign of their authority.
Today, we may not carry a physical sceptre like earthly kings, but we have been given the sceptre of righteousness. The righteousness of God has been given to us, and through it we rule and live as kings and priests in this world.
With the sceptre of righteousness comes the ability to live holy, just as our Father is holy. That ability is already present within you through the life of God.
