A huge thank you to all our visitors for joining us- it was such a pleasure to meet you, tell you more about Frideswide Voices, and share more about the life of the Cathedral. We hope you enjoyed all the activities, including the singing workshop, choir rehearsal, cathedral tour, and Evensong.

We are now looking forward to the next stage: auditions, which will take place on Saturday 6 June and Saturday 13 June.

We were delighted to celebrate the formal installation of Alexander Turner as the new Director of FV on Sunday. Alex was appointed in January this year and has already built a strong rapport with the choristers, demonstrating great professionalism. Christ is risen! 🕊️

Last night, we gathered in the quiet beauty of the Easter Vigil at Christ Church Cathedral, moving from darkness into light, from silence into song.
The Paschal candle was lit, the Word proclaimed, and hearts renewed with the joy of the Resurrection.

“He is not here; He has risen!”

May the light of Christ continue to shine in our lives this Easter season. Alleluia! 🙏

The Christ Church Cathedral Choir, and Frideswide Voices join forces with acclaimed chamber orchestra Britten Sinfonia this Holy Week for a free performance of Sir James MacMillan’s 'Seven Last Words from the Cross' on March 31, under the direction of Peter Holder.

Every year, we offer a performance of a choral work as part of our Holy Week programme. In 2026, we're honoured to be sharing 'Seven Last Words from the Cross'. Commissioned by the BBC in 1994, this powerful work sets Christ’s final words alongside texts from the Holy Week liturgies for eight-part choir, accompanied by a string ensemble. The performance includes reflections from the Sub Dean, the Revd Canon Peter Moger, to help you access the musical and theological meanings within the work.

This performance is offered as an act of worship - admission is free and no booking is required. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Alex officially joins us this week, and we’re excited for what’s ahead!

We're delighted to announce the appointment of Alexander Turner and Susannah Hill as our new Associate Choral Director and Director of the Cathedral Singers.

In the newly-expanded role of Associate Choral Director, Alexander will support our Organist and Director of Music Peter Holder in the provision of choral music of the highest quality at Christ Church, with particular responsibility for the day-to-day running of Frideswide Voices of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. Susannah Hill, meanwhile, will lead the Cathedral Singers from February, following the appointment of Hilary Punnett as Assistant Director of Music at St Paul's Cathedral.

The Sub Dean, The Revd Canon Peter Moger said, "Music plays a vital role within the liturgy of the Cathedral and is a core component of our mission. Alex and Susannah will bring great strengths to our music team and we very much look forward to their contributions."

“Susannah and Alexander are first-class musicians who will bring much to the community at Christ Church,” said Peter Holder. “They are also both delightful people, who will be inspiring and generous mentors to their respective choristers and choirs. We look forward to welcoming them!”
