Merton College Chapel

Merton College Chapel Merton College Chapel provides a place for worship and quiet reflection for Members of the College and Visitors. All are welcome to join us.

Merton College Chapel is open to all and welcomes visitors and Members of College. The Chapel is part of the Church of England but the daily offering of worship is sustained by Christians from many different traditions. The main service of the week is at 5.45pm on Sundays. Alternating between Choral Evensong and a Choral Eucharist (Holy Communion), the College Choir sings at this service. The Sund

ay morning service starts at 9am and lasts for half an hour. Weekday services:
8.15am Morning Prayer (Monday to Friday)
12.30pm Eucharist (Tuesday)
6.00pm Choral Vespers (Monday)
6.15pm Choral Evensong (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)
9.30pm Night Prayer (Thursday)

As well as services, there are many concerts and events that take place in the Chapel. In addition to the many services, the chaplaincy hosts a number of discussion groups that are open to all members of the community. The Chapel is home to the Dobson Organ. Designed and built by the American firm Dobson Pipe Organ Builders from Iowa in the US, It was dedicated by the Bishop of Oxford in April 2014. The Chapel has its own team of volunteers to read, serve and steward at services. If you would like to read or serve please contact the Chaplain ([email protected]). The College Chaplain, the Revd Canon Dr Simon Jones, is happy to speak in confidence with any member of College (regardless of religious affiliation) concerning any matter. As well as being responsible for services, the Chaplain also co-ordinated the welfare provision in College and convenes the Student Support Committee.
