From our Father General on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel: "Our tradition takes pride in saying that Carmel is wholly Marian. We want to belong entirely to Mary, and to share the adventure, the experience of prayer and intimacy with Jesus that is being renewed"

"O my God, Trinity whom I adore, let me entirely forget myself that I may abide in you, still and peaceful as if my soul were already in eternity; let nothing disturb my peace nor separate me from you, O my unchanging God, but that each moment may take me further into the depths of your mystery!" - St Elizabeth of the Trinity

"O Consuming Fire, Spirit of Love, descend into my soul and make all in me as an incarnation of the Word, that I may be to him a super-added humanity wherein he renews his mystery; and you, O Father, bestow yourself and bend down to your little creature, seeing in her only your beloved Son in whom you are well pleased." - St Elizabeth of the Trinity 🔥

It’s here. Tonight on Channel 5 at 10pm.

We are the Carmelite friars of Boars Hill, Oxford — and this evening you are invited into our home, our chapel, and our life.

If what you see moves you, visit us at carmelite.uk.net/tradingplaces to find out more.

Hello, I am Fr Shiju Anthony. I come from India and I've been a Carmelite friar for many years. Our community here at Boars Hill is wonderfully diverse. We come from different countries and cultures, but we all share one calling.

What I love most about this life is the silence. In a world that is so noisy, silence is a gift. It's where you begin to hear what really matters.

I hope Trading Places will give you a taste of the peace we find here.

Hello, I am Fr Savariyar. I am from India and I have served in ministry across several countries. I speak Spanish, which surprises people sometimes.

I came to Boars Hill to be part of something special. A community that is growing, alive and deeply committed to prayer and service. The Carmelite tradition teaches us that the love of God is not something distant. It is right here in the everyday life.

Please watch Trading Places and see for yourselves.

Hi I'm Fr Noel. I'm from Goa, India and from the Discalced Carmelite Province of Karnataka-Goa.

I've had the opportunity to serve in quite a few places and in various capacities, as a seminary rector a philosophy professor, a youth director, and now here at Boars Hill, where I help coordinate programmes for CACS.

What drew me to Carmel are the great mystics: St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross. They showed me that prayer isn't something you do, it's someone you meet.

I hope Trading Places helps you meet the God who is already waiting for you.

Two days to go! This Sunday, our community appears on Channel 5 in Trading Places.

We opened our doors and our lives to three young men — and to the cameras. We hope what you see will surprise you, move you, and perhaps make you curious about a way of life that has been quietly changing hearts for over 800 years.

10pm on Channel 5. We’ll be watching too.

Evening recreation. The one part of the day when the community gathers simply to enjoy each other's company.

Conversation. Laughter. The occasional heated debate about football. Sometimes someone brings out biscuits, or a special treat. We are friars, not robots!

Community means being fully human together.

Hello, I am Fr Luke, I am the director of CACS, our Centre for Applied Carmelite Spirituality and I am a retreat and spiritual director. I specialise in Carmelite tradition of prayer and I have a masters degree in spirituality.

But the most important thing I have learned isn't from books. It is from sitting in silence day after day, year after year and discovering that God is faithful.

We opened our doors for Trading Places because we believe this life has something to say to everyone.
