Happy music Sunday Royal School of Church Music!

What a wonderful service we had this morning, full of delightful music.

Here is a little throwback to our singing workshop last week. We sung a variety of things from pop, musical theatre, all the way to choral jazz! Take a listen to โ€œTrue Coloursโ€ which the children along with Sam sung alongside British sign language.

๐ŸŽถ What a fantastic day at our Kids Singing Workshop! ๐ŸŽถ

A huge well done to all the 18 young singers who joined us. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, confidence, creativity, and joy as they explored different styles of music, made new friends, and discovered the power of their voices. And an extra special shoutout goes to the ones who joined us to sing for our Sunday morning service- you brought such vibrancy to the morning!

Thank you to our workshop leaders, volunteers, parents, and everyone who helped make the day such a success. Most of all, thank you to the children for bringing such energy and excitement to St Oswald's.

We are so proud of everything they achieved and loved seeing their confidence grow throughout the day. ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŽต

Here is a short message from Sam, our Director of Music:

โ€œWhat a fantastic day of music-making we have had. It was wonderful to see every child fully engaged and singing with such enthusiasm and confidence. Their voices were outstanding, and each child brought something special to the experience.

Alongside learning some wonderful music, we also had the opportunity to learn some British Sign Language (BSL), which was a particularly memorable part of the day. The children also learned more about the choir and the organ, gaining a greater insight into choral music-making.

I felt very fortunate to spend the day with such talented and enthusiastic young musicians. Well done to everyone involvedโ€”you should be incredibly proud of your achievements. Keep nurturing your musicality and using your wonderful voices!โ€

โœจ๐ŸŽถ MEET SAM! ๐ŸŽถโœจ

Sam first joined the choir at just 7 years old and has now come full circle, returning as our Director of Music after an incredible journey in music and beyond.

She is a mezzo-soprano opera singer, veterinary nurse, part-time baker at the UK's only deaf bakehouse (Widnall Bakery), and fluent BSL user. Sam brings a wealth of experience, passion and enthusiasm to our choir community. After studying Veterinary Science and later completing a Master's in Music, she has performed across the UK and around the world.

Sam is very passionate about making music accessible to everyone. After meeting her deaf husband, she became fluent in BSL and now regularly sings and signs.

When she's not making music, you'll find her gaming, swimming, running, or walking her Labrador, Crumpet. ๐Ÿ•

Her favourite choral piece is Faire is the Heaven by William Harris, while outside the choir stalls she enjoys artists such as Coldplay and the Goo Goo Dolls, with Iris being one of her favourite songs.

When asked what she would say to someone thinking about joining the choir, Sam said:

"Go for it. I've performed all over the country and parts of the world, met some amazing people, and made some dear friends. I certainly wouldn't be where I am today without the grounding I received through choir. It is a commitment, but you reap the benefits and become part of an amazing and strong community that helps shape your future."

We're delighted to have Sam leading our music ministry and helping others discover the joy of singing together. โค๏ธ
