Christmas Greetings from Mel and Tom Spears

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡©πŸŽ„ Happy Christmas from Chad! πŸŽ„πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡©

Hello! We are the Spears family working at Guinebor II hospital (G2) in Chad.

Mel has been working on improving G2’s service for malnourished children and it has been great to see many of our previous inpatients coming back every week for follow up. We have recently started a weekly education session on a range of health-related topics.

It’s been great to see many of the mums engaging in discussions as well as seeing the improvements their children are making. It also means if one of them is unwell we are able to identify them quickly, as malnourished children are particularly vulnerable and need prompt treatment.

This includes Amira, a severely malnourished child who came back with diarrhoea and vomiting. She was quickly re-admitted and received the life-saving care she urgently needed. She made fantastic progress and is now back in the outpatient programme where we will be able to continue monitoring her progress. Tom is delighted to see her regularly in his clinic also where she is often smiling and trying to steal his stethoscope!

Please pray for wisdom and favour as we seek to be a blessing to this community.

Blessings,
Mel and Tom Spears

Over the past fortnight we've watched some amazing people going higher, faster and further than ever before. To achieve their dreams they've had to show determination and dedication, frequently succeeding in the face of seemingly impossible odds.

What dreams are you chasing? What vision of the future is shaping the choices you make about how to live today?

The latest from the Mahons who are in quarantine in the UK as part of their home assignment. I know they're due to visit Tarporley; I'll try to see if they might be anywhere else nearby.

πŸ™ Catching up with the Mahons! πŸ™

We've had the best time hearing from Dave and Michele today in a virtual catch up. They're currently quarantining after returning from Peru for home assignment in the UK β€” but they still took some time out to spend the day with colleagues from the office.

God has wonderfully kept them safe and well despite high levels of Covid cases in Iquitos, where they live. New ways of reaching out to people (including a new local hub for pastoral training in the Amazon rainforest, as well as launching a radio show!) have also meant that so many of the pastors and communities they work amongst have kept encouraged in the most difficult of circumstances!

Say hello to the Mahons below, and we'll pass the messages on! πŸ˜ƒ

We're excited to announce that we will be resuming in-person worship services on Sunday 23rd May 2021 at 10:45am for 11:00am.

The services will look a little different to how things used to be, partly due to government and Baptist Union advice, partly due to exploring new (for us) directions in worship.
