MARY MOTHER OF THE CHURCH

The day after Pentecost, Our Lady leads us from the birthday of the Church straight into her arms. ๐Ÿค

She stood beneath the Cross. She prayed in the upper room. She is the heart of the Church โ€” not just a figure from the past, but our living mother, interceding for us now.

Fr. Dan this morning: *"A Church without a mother would be an orphan."*

Mary is the mother of Christ, and as such, she is a mother to all of us in the Church.

*Mary, Mother of the Church โ€” pray for us!*

PENTECOST

Fr Daniel shared these snippets of wisdom in his homily today on the feast of Pentecost.

โ€œThe risen Jesus kept His wounds. He didn't hide them โ€” He showed them.

That's what Pentecost does in us. The Holy Spirit doesn't erase our scars. He heals them โ€” and then turns them into the very place from which we offer peace to others. โœ๏ธ

Today, the fire falls. Not to overwrite who you are, but to bring out who God always made you to be.

Open the door. ๐Ÿšชโ€

7th Sunday of Easter

๐Ÿ™ "I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you."
Jesus prayed these words knowing our struggles were coming. As Fr. Daniel reminded us today โ€” those troubles are not forgotten. We are permanently anchored by Christ's continuous intercession at the right hand of the Father. He is thinking about us. He is praying for us.
As we count down to Pentecost, let's open the doors of our hearts. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

โœจ From the Altar to the Table โ€” What a Night at Our Lady's! โœจ๐Ÿ™

Tonight, we celebrated one of the great feasts of the Church โ€” the Ascension of the Lord ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ โ€” as Christ, forty days after His glorious Resurrection, returned to the Father in triumph, promising to be with us always.

Then from one great feast to another! ๐Ÿ›๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

Fr. Daniel along with 29 of our wonderful parishioners went on to The Four Pillars Indian Restaurant for the very first gathering of the Our Lady's Catholic Curry Club โ€” and what a flying start it was! ๐Ÿš€

Great food, much laughter and wonderful company, the night was everything a parish family should be.

Tonight reminded us that community isn't just built in the pews โ€” it's built around shared tables too.

A big thank you to Kieron โ€” whose hard work made this whole evening happen. None of this comes together without someone willing to serve behind the scenes๐Ÿ‘

And of course, thank you to everyone who came along and made this first Curry Club one to remember.

Watch this space โ€” the Catholic Curry Club at Our Lady's is officially a thing. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

๐ŸŒธ May โ€” The Month of Our Lady ๐ŸŒธ
May is traditionally dedicated to our Blessed Mother, and what a beautiful invitation it is!
Last week, Fr Daniel blessed our statue of Our Lady and crowned her โ€” a truly moving moment for our parish family as we enter this special month. ๐ŸŒน
Throughout May, let us turn to Mary with open hearts โ€” praying the Rosary, seeking her intercession, and allowing her to lead us ever closer to her Son, Jesus.
She always points us to Him. ๐Ÿ™
Hail Mary, full of grace โ€” pray for us!

๐Ÿ™ **A Beautiful Day of Healing at Our Lady's** ๐Ÿ™

What a truly grace-filled morning here at Our Lady's! Today, members of the St Vincent de Paul Society organised a wonderful Healing Mass for the sick.

Fr Daniel laid hands on those who came forward, calling down the Holy Spirit upon them before anointing those who wished to receive this powerful sacrament.

Following the Mass the SVP members prepared a lunch for all which went down very well, particularly the laden dessert table! ๐Ÿฝ๏ธโค๏ธ

A huge thank you to Fr Daniel, Deacon Peter and all the SVP members whose tireless work and generous hearts made this day possible. You are truly the hands and feet of Christ.

**โœ๏ธ What is the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick?**

The Anointing of the Sick is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church, bringing spiritual healing, strength, and God's grace to those who are seriously ill, preparing them to face suffering with peace.

When the sacrament is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.

Who can receive it? Any baptised Catholic who is seriously ill and has sufficient reason to be comforted by the sacrament may receive it. The Catechism is clear: "The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived" (CCC 1514). Unlike Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and Matrimony, there is no limit on the number of times one can receive the Anointing of the Sick.

If you or a loved one is seriously ill, don't wait โ€” speak to Fr Daniel or contact the parish office. This sacrament is a gift from Christ Himself. ๐Ÿ’›

*"Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord." โ€” James 5:14*

Today, 23rd April, we celebrate the feast day of St. George โ€” soldier, martyr, and patron of our nation! ๐Ÿ‰โš”๏ธ

George was a Roman soldier who, when the Emperor Diocletian issued his edict of persecution against Christians, boldly professed his faith in Christ โ€” even in the face of torture and death. His courage was no legend โ€” it was the witness of a man who chose God over comfort, power, and life itself.

Join us this evening at Our Lady Help of Christians & St. Lawrence, Olney, as we honour our patron saint at Holy Mass!

The Second Sunday of Easter Alleluia!

Fr Liam led us in a beautiful Mass, and spoke to us about the feast of Divine Mercy.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Aptly Patrick who was confirmed during Mass today took the confirmation name Saint Longinus who was the Roman Centurion who pierced the side of Jesus from where came gushing blood and water.

๐Ÿฉธ ๐Ÿ’ง This is also reflected in the Divine Mercy image which as you can see was blessed by Fr Liam in preparation for the Divine Mercy service.

Congratulations Patrick ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
