CARL’S STORY

I used to be of the opinion that religious people were weak and insipid. My own philosophy was to enjoy all that life had to offer without thinking too much about the consequences.

In time my attitudes began to change and I started to take an interest in the Bible and it’s message of salvation through Jesus Christ. I began to visit a multitude of church denominations, asking questions and seeking advice on how to live the Christian life, but realised after about a year that living a Christian life was an impossibility.

Soon after this I heard the truth of the gospel from two young men from the Revival Centre Church in Liverpool. They told me that I could have a tangible experience with the living God. I was shown in the Bible the command to repent (a change of heart and direction), be baptised (immersed in water) and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2v38). I was told that upon receiving the Holy Spirit, I would immediately speak in tongues, (Acts 2v1-4; Acts 10v44-46; Mark 16v17-18).

At first I resisted, being argumentative, but eventually I accepted. I went along to a meeting, repented of my sin and received the gift of the Holy Spirit with the Bible evidence of speaking in tongues. I was baptised (by full immersion in water) shortly afterwards. I praise God for His truth and salvation.

Healing:
About four years after this wonderful experience of salvation, I experienced the healing power of God when He healed my body of Graves Disease.

MARIUSZ'S TESTIMONY - POLAND

MY FORMER LIFE
For as long as I can remember, my relationship with God has been very neutral. As a child I went to a Catholic church every Sunday and attended religion classes that my mother sent me to. I did it because that was what most people did and for me that seemed to be the only right way.

As a teenager, I could decide for myself and that's when I stopped going to church. After finishing my military service, when I was 21, I met my future wife – Liliana. Catholic traditions were very important to her family. That's why I started going to Catholic church every Sunday again, this time for Liliana. However, it did not bring me any closer to God. We got married and moved to England where we lived for 3 years.

After returning to Poland, we started learning German at language school where we met Konrad - Pastor of Revival Centres Church, his wife was our teacher. They told us about God, the Bible and the true Gospel. Although I wasn't entirely convinced, I came to the conclusion that it might be worth seeking God after all. We went on holiday with them to Italy and there we met two families who also belong to the Revival Church. They welcomed us as if we were their family, which surprised me very much because it was the first time they had seen us. After the holidays, my wife and I started attending Revival Church meetings, reading the Bible, and drawing closer to God.

MY NEW LIFE IN CHRIST
A few years later, during another visit to Italy, I decided to be baptized, as the Bible teaches us by full immersion. After two years of patiently waiting and praying, I received the Holy Spirit, with evidence of speaking in tongues. It was during the pandemic that I was praying at home with my wife, who had already received the Holy Spirit. Since then, I have clearly seen the difference between a world with God and a world without God. I see people worrying and complaining while I find hundreds of reasons to be grateful to God for everything I have. Over the past few years, my wife and I have had to face many difficult situations. Before, I wouldn't have been able to cope with so many problems, but with God by my side, I can overcome anything. While I enjoy life, God sends me solutions. Sometimes I think I've reached a dead end and then new doors open that I wouldn't have even thought of before. I see God's plan in every aspect of my life and I am grateful to Him for taking care of me and guiding my life. Living with God is fantastic!

The entire Gospel preached from the Old Testament, see scriptures below:

PROPHECIES OF JESUS AND THE GOSPEL

The Gospel in the Old Testament

Jesus Christ, the Son of God

Jesus birth

Isaiah 7v14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings

Note: born of a virgin. Immanuel means God with us.

Isaiah 9v6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Note: prophecy of Jesus birth and His Kingly reign.

Micah 5v2
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Note: Jesus born in Bethlehem.

Hosea11v1
When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

Note: Joseph hid Jesus and Mary in Egypt because he feared Herod (Herod killed all the children up to the age of 2 years old).

The Anointing of Jesus (the Messiah, the Christ)

Isaiah 61v1
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Note: Jesus was Anointed with the Holy Spirit and Power, becoming the Christ (Anointed). See Acts 10v38.

Psalm 45v7
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Note: Jesus was Anointed with the Holy Spirit and Power, becoming the Christ (Anointed). See Acts 10v38.

Ministry of Jesus

Galilean ministry

Isaiah 9v1
Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. 2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

Note: Jesus ministry in Galilee.

A rock of offence (stumbling)

Isaiah 8v14
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

Note: Jesus would be rejected by His own nation, especially the priests – a stone of stumbling.

Riding upon the ass

Zechariah 9v9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a c**t the foal of an ass.

Note: Jesus entering Jerusalem upon an ass.

Betrayal of Jesus

Psalm 41v9
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.

Note: Jesus betrayed by a Judas.

Zechariah 11v12
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. 13 And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

Note: Judas sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

Death of Jesus

Daniel 9v26
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Note: Messiah/Christ would be cut off, ie be killed, not for Himself, but for the people (their sins).

Psalm 22v1
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? 2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. 3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. 6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. 7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. 9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts. 10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly. 11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. 12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. 13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. 16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. 18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

Note: Jesus sufferings upon the cross. Notice verse 16 … they pierced my hands and my feet … a reference to Jesus being nailed to the cross. The Jewish form of ex*****on was stoning, not crucifixion.

Psalm 69v20
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. 21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Note: Jesus had no comforters during His time of ex*****on. On the cross He represented our sin and our sin could not be comforted, the full measure of judgement had to be given.

Isaiah 53v3
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Note: He was crucified for our sins, and whipped for our healing.

Resurrection of Jesus

Psalm 16v10
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Note: This is quoted by Peter the apostle in the Acts 2v27 in reference to the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus was not left in hell (greek word; ‘hades’, which means, the ‘grave’ (or ‘unknown’), as opposed to the greek word ‘geenna’, which is often translated in English Bibles as ‘hell’).

Ascension of Jesus

Psalm 110v1
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool

Note: Jesus ascension to the right hand of God.

Psalm 68v18
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

Note: another reference to His ascension.

New Covenant (Testament)

A new testament replacing and fulfilling the old testament

Jeremiah 31v31
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Grace and forgiveness

Psalm 32v1
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

Note: only under the new testament can sins be taken away and not imputed to the sinner.

Receiving the Holy Spirit

Joel 2v28
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Note: prophecy about God pouring out His Spirit.

Ezekiel 36v25
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Note: God giving His Spirit to us.

Speaking in tongues

Isaiah 28v11
For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Note: quoted by Paul, the apostle, in 1 Corinthians 14v21 where he explains that Isaiah is referring to speaking in tongues. See also Zephaniah 3v9.

The Church

Psalm 22v22
I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

Note: prophecy about the congregation (the church).

Jesus Christ return

Malachi 4v1
For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

Note: prophecy about Jesus return.

The Millennium

Jesus Christ ruling upon the earth during 1000 years

Isaiah 11v1
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: 4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. 5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. 9* They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

Note: This is a prophecy about the millennium, which is a period of 1000 years when Jesus will reign upon the earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This will take place immediately after His return.

The Judgement

Daniel 12v2
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Note: prophecy of the judgement.

NAT'S STORY

I was brought up by a family that believes in God. I attended the Church meeting: singing songs in praise of God and listening to the Bible ‘lectures.’

One night, I was asked if I would like prayer to receive the Holy Spirit, an experience where a person is made in right standing with God. In order to receive this, I praised God in the English. One night my ‘tongue’ began to change, and I began to speak in ‘tongues.’ This is the Bible evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit. I then followed the command to be submerged in water, baptism, as a symbolic burial of my ‘old life.’ From this point on my life really did change and I now have a confidence and assurance as to what the future holds and what God has in store for me.`

Former Life:
Ever since I can remember, I have believed in God. My parents sent me to mainstream church lessons where I learned all about the traditions. I had a very happy childhood and I lacked nothing.

Later when I was studying, I also understood that all I had was thanks to God. I often asked God for help, especially before an important exam or when I was scared of something. I prayed in the morning and in the evening, went to the church services and participated in the religious holidays.

After I received my degree with top marks, I married my boyfriend that I had known since I was 15 years old. We moved abroad, quickly climbed the corporate ladder and travelled a lot. After a few years abroad we moved back to Poland to take care of the family business.

One day, God took my hand and showed me his true way. He reached out to me at the hardest time of my life; I had a miscarriage and soon after my father was diagnosed with cancer. I underwent three unsuccessful in-vitro fertilisation treatments and my business partner took me to court. I would never have been able to cope with all this if God hadn’t spoken to me, if He hadn’t caught me or pushed me forward.

I started reading the only true document that God gave to mankind, the Bible. I could find many answers to my questions and even though I didn’t understand many things, I gradually exchanged following religious rituals for a true faith in God. Despite my doubts at the beginning, I could see that it was meaningless to follow traditions because they didn’t bring me salvation. God had always loved me, but I didn’t fulfil his word and therefore I wasn’t saved.

My New Life in Christ

Today I am very thankful that I met people from the Revival Centres Church in Poland who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Apostles and the early Christians. They showed me how much mainstream churches and their leaders had departed from these teachings. It took me five long years to make a final decision and I imagined God saying: “Enough, what are you waiting for?”

It was at a prayer meeting when God filled me with His Holy Spirit. I suddenly spoke in tongues and I remember how happy I was. I was so happy that I prayed in tongues the whole way back home in the car, because I just wanted to listen to this new language. Back at home I read the whole letter to Romans and I was amazed that I could suddenly understand the meaning of these words. A few days later I got baptised by full immersion in an idyllic lake and that’s how my adventure with God started.

I pray to God daily in the prayer language He has given me and He always answers me. He often shows me his answer in the Bible, sometimes straight away, sometimes after some time, but the answer always comes which is amazing and wonderful.

Since I have received the Holy Spirit, not everything in my life is suddenly easy. There are still setbacks. But God reassures me every day that that these situations are certain chapters that will pass, that I can cope because He is always with me and if I won’t give up there will be an amazing prize waiting for me; eternal life. At times I feel like Daniel in the lion’s den and I am often surprised by my own courage. I lead negotiations with ruthless business people in meetings I would never have participated in the past without my lawyer but now the Holy Spirit gives me strength.

I recently suffered from a strong allergic reaction on my eye lids. I was in constant pain and suffered from itching, reddening and teary eyes. The reaction was so strong that after some time it also affected my general well being. I tried everything: creams, vitamins, oils, cortisone and antibiotics. Nothing helped! I made an appointment at the hospital to do some tests. However at the same time the COVID-19 pandemic began and I couldn’t go to the hospital anymore.

My pastor saw me in this poor condition and he offered to pray for me which I accepted gladly. He laid hands on me and prayed. An hour after the prayer I could already feel an improvement and after a few days the allergy disappeared completely. It is truly wonderful to be a child of God!

Avril’s Experience of Finding God

During my childhood I lived in a village in Hampshire, UK and attended a local denominational church. I always believed in God and as a child living in the countryside, it seemed logical that such a beautiful creation had to have a creator. I remember very clearly my confirmation and being bitterly disappointed when the Bishop anointed me with the oil and said, “Receive ye the Holy Spirit” and nothing happened.

Many years later I was married with two young children and living in Australia. I was still searching for answers and wanted to find a church where we could attend as a family. A work colleague of my husband’s told him how he had come to know the Lord in Spirit and truth. As a result I attended a Revival Centre meeting in Canberra, Australia. I was told that I had to repent, be baptised by full immersion in water and that I would receive the Holy Spirit, (Acts 2v38), with the evidence of speaking in tongues, just as the people did on the day of Pentecost, Acts 2v4. Since obeying the Lord’s directive, receiving the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues myself, I began my walk with the Lord.

All these years later my experience is still as wonderful as when I first heard the salvation message. I can’t imagine living life any other way.

Salvation through Jesus Christ the Son of God

Find it in your own Bible

The Bible tells us that everyone has sinned (see: Romans 3:23), and that the punishment for our sin is death (see: Romans 6:23), to be condemned (see: Romans 5:16-18).

There is an answer

God in His Love sent His Son Jesus Christ to the Earth to be punished in our place, by dying on the cross. On the third day He rose from the dead. After Jesus had ascended to Heaven, the disciples received the Holy Spirit and spoke in new tongues, see: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Acts 2:4. The purpose of His death and resurrection was to pay the price for our sins to be forgiven (1 John 3:5), for us to receive the Holy Spirit, (Galatians 3:13-14), and for us to receive Eternal Life (John 4:14).

What must I do to be saved?

First of all, one must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 6:28-29), then repent (i.e. to turn from sin, and turn to God), be baptised (i.e. to be immersed in water – Romans 6:3-4), and receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit. (see: Acts 2:38).

How does a person know when they have received the Holy Spirit?

They will immediately speak in tongues. See: Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-46, Acts 19:6, Mark 16:17-18. A person cannot be saved or enter into Heaven if they have not received the Holy Spirit. John 3:5, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, Titus 3:5 .

Only the true believer will be delivered from condemnation (Mark 16:16 and 2 Thessalonians 1:7&10), because our own good works cannot save us. (Ephesians 2v9).

Healing – a part of the Gospel

Jesus Christ is still healing the sick today – He hasn’t changed. Hebrews 13:8. Healing the sick is a miracle that will accompany the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – Mark 16:18 . You can be saved and healed today.

Revival Centres Church preaches the full gospel message of Jesus, the promise of the Holy Spirit, and signs following. The people in our Church have received that promise with the accompanying signs. This tangible evidence includes miraculous healing and speaking in tongues.

FOUR BRIEF STUDIES - THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate from scripture that there is only one experience of receiving the Gift of the Holy Spirit, and that the one experience is referred to in the Bible as both the born again experience and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. I emphasise, not two separate experiences, but the one and same experience.

To fully appreciate the message of this study, every verse and passage of Scripture referred to should be examined in order to determine the accuracy of each statement made.

It should be noted that the New Testament manuscripts were originally written in ancient Greek. The Greek word pneuma is often translated as both spirit and ghost. There are four studies in the series and each page can be navigated through by using the links below.

Study One

There is one Spirit

The following Scriptures show clearly that there is one Spirit, Ephesians 4:4 …there is one Body, and one Spirit… (see also 1 Corinthians 12:13 and Ephesians 2:18). In 1 John 5:8 we are told …And there are three that bear witness in Earth, The Spirit, and the Water, and the Blood; and these three agree in one. If there are three witnesses on Earth and the Spirit is one of those witnesses, then clearly there can only be one Spirit.

In the Bible the Lord Jesus is referred to in different ways, i.e. The Son of God – Luke 1:35, The Son of Man – Matthew 8:20, The Messiah – John 4:25-26, but there is only one Lord – Ephesians 4:5.

In the same way the Holy Spirit is spoken of in different ways, but clearly there is one Spirit – Ephesians 4:4. The following Scriptures will demonstrate this further: In Acts 2:4 we read: And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. From this Scripture we see that the Holy Ghost is spoken of as the Spirit.

In the same way Romans 8:9, shows us that the Spirit is also spoken of as the Spirit of God, (see also 1 Corinthians 2:10, 11, 13.) In John 14:26, the Holy Ghost is spoken of as the Comforter, and in John 15:26, the Comforter is spoken of as the Spirit of Truth. In Acts 2:33 the Holy Ghost is spoken of as the Promise (see also verses 38-39), and in Acts 1:4-5, the experience of receiving the Promise of the Father is spoken of as one being Baptized *with the Holy Ghost. [*with (Acts 1:5) Greek word is en, and should be read as in.] In Ephesians 1v13, the believer is sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise, and in verse 14, the Holy Spirit of Promise is spoken of as the Earnest (i.e. Pledge or Guarantee) of the believer’s inheritance, (an inheritance reserved in Heaven , 1 Peter 1:4). So we see above that the Baptism in/with the Holy Spirit is the guarantee (earnest) of salvation.

When comparing 1 Peter 1:10-11; with 2 Peter 1:21, we see how in his first letter Peter refers to the prophets as searching what time the Spirit of Christ in them was revealing, whereas in his second letter he refers to them as having spoken, moved by the Holy Ghost. Note how in both letters the same thing is being said, but in his first letter he speaks of the Spirit as the Spirit of Christ, whereas in his second letter he speaks of the Spirit as the Holy Ghost.

We are informed in Romans 8:9 …’Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His’. The Greek word for Christ is Christos, which means Anointed, and Acts 10:38 tells us that Jesus was Anointed, with the Holy Spirit and with Power. Through Jesus the believer is Anointed (1 John 2:27; 2 Corinthians 1:21) with the Holy Spirit and with Power (Acts 1:8), or put another way has received the Spirit of Christ (the same Anointing as Jesus), therefore, he/she will do the same works that Jesus did (John 14:12; Mark 16:17-18), …’because as He is so are we in this world’.1 John 4:17.

It should be clear from the Scriptures we have examined that there is one Spirit. Ephesians 4:4. The Scriptures make it clear, that during Jesus’ Earthly ministry, the Holy Spirit was with the disciples but not in them, (John 14:17).

Study Two

John 20v22

In John 21:21-23 the disciples misunderstood the words of Jesus. They had assumed that Jesus had said that the disciple would not die, but this is not what He had said.

In the same way the words of Jesus recorded in John 20:22 are misunderstood by many. They assume that the words ….’receive ye the Holy Ghost’….. implies that the disciples received the Holy Spirit at that point in time. The truth of the matter is that Jesus was telling (commanding) them to receive the Holy Spirit, – (the Day of Pentecost at Jerusalem being the time and the place when this would happen, – Acts 2:1-4). The following Scriptures will demonstrate this. Let’s remember to take Jesus at his word.

The account in John 20:22 does not record that the disciples received the Holy Spirit, it simply records that they were told to do so. Luke’s account of what was said (as recorded in the Acts), is: And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the Promise of the Father… (Acts 1:4), (the Promise of the Father is the Holy Spirit, see Acts 2:33). From the verses that follow Acts 1:4 it is clear that this was to take place on the Day of Pentecost, (Acts 2:1-4.) An interesting point in John 20:24, is that Thomas was not present when these words (verse 22) were spoken to the other disciples, and what is more, there is no record of Jesus repeating these words to him. If one is going to assume (without any Scriptural evidence), that the disciples received the Holy Spirit at this point in time, one must therefore also assume that Thomas did not receive the Holy Spirit, (remember there is no record of these words being repeated to Thomas)

Study Three

All have the SAME experience

In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. (see 2 Corinthians 13:1 and Matthew 18:16).

John the Baptist said that Jesus was the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, (see John 1:29.) A little later we are told that the One upon Whom the Spirit descends and remains on, the same is He who baptizes with (Greek = In) the Holy Ghost (see John 1:33).

Paul’s message in Galatians 3:13-14 is the same. He tells us that Christ was made a curse for us, so that the Blessing of Abraham could come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, (i.e. through Christ – Abraham’s seed, all Nations of the Earth would be blessed,) that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (It has already been established in Study One that the receiving of the promise of the Holy Ghost, is being baptized in the Holy Ghost, see Acts 2:33.

Now let us have a look at 1 Corinthians 10:1-4. Paul in verse 2 tells us that all Israel were baptized in the cloud in the sea. Their baptism was unto (Greek = into) Moses. They were not only baptized in water, but in the cloud also, which was a pillar of fire by night. See Exodus 13:21 and 14:24.

The believer is baptized in water, Romans 6:3-4; 1 Peter 3:21-22; and is baptized in the Holy Spirit into Jesus Christ. See 1 Corinthians 12:13. We see in Chapter 10:2, that all Israel were baptized in the cloud and the sea. Chapter 12:13 tells us, …’ * by One Spirit are we all Baptized into one Body,’…. (*by = Greek = In), note the word all.

Some today think that 1 Corinthians 12:13, is saying that we are baptized by the Holy Spirit. The word by in this scripture is en in the Greek and means in. In Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33, Acts 1:5 and Acts 11:16, each of these Scriptures speak of being Baptized with the Holy Spirit. And the word with in each of these Scriptures is en in the Greek and means in. The same word used in 1 Corinthians 12:13. There is one Baptism – see Ephesians 4:5. In 1 Corinthians 12:13, and Acts 15:7-9, we see that God has put no difference between Jew or Gentile. If there is no difference between Jew and Gentile, it is clear that there is no difference between any other; for …God is no respecter of persons… (Acts 10:34.)

Study Four

All receive His fulness

In John 10:10, Jesus said, … I am come that they might have Life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Abundantly – Greek word is perisson and means: beyond measure; more than is necessary.

In John 3:34, we read …for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. In the King James translation the words unto Him are in italics. In the King James translation, this means that such words are not a part of the original Scriptures, but have been added by the translators. We know that the Scripture is referring to Jesus and we also know that God has never changed. – see Malachi 3:6; and Hebrews 13:8.

We are told in John 1:16, And of His fullness have all we received, and Grace for Grace. The believer has the Spirit of Christ, (see Romans 8:9) and we are told in Colossians 2:10, that we are complete in Him. The word used here (complete) is pepleromenoi in the Greek, from which comes the word pleroma, which is used (in reference to Jesus) in Colossians 2:9, and is translated fullness.

In John 4:14, But whosoever drinketh of the Water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of Water springing up into Everlasting Life. In John 7:37-39, Jesus was speaking of the Holy Ghost when He was speaking of rivers of Living Water. In John 4:14, Jesus was speaking of one experience. The person who drinks of the Water that Jesus gives will have …Everlasting Life. (See also John 3:5; Titus 3:5); and that person will never thirst, because he is complete in Christ, (see Colossians 2:10); Because out of his belly shall flow rivers of Living Water. (See also John 7:37-39.)

When a person comes to Christ, the Lord gives them the whole armour of God and we are told in Ephesians 6:11, to put on the whole armour of God, so that we can fight against the wiles (tricks) of the devil.

In Titus 3:5, we are told, … but according to His Mercy He Saved us, by the Washing of Regeneration and Renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; … (i) The word washing is loutrou in the Greek, and the root word louo, means to bathe (the whole person). Compare with 1 Corinthians 6:11. (ii) The word regeneration is paliggenesias, and means new birth. Compare with John 3:3-5. We see then from Titus 3:3-6, that God according to His Mercy saves by the Washing of new birth, and Renewing of the Holy Spirit; shed on the believer abundantly (i.e. richly), through Jesus Christ.

If we have not received the Holy Spirit, we cannot be saved or enter into Heaven, see John 3:5, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, Titus 3:5, Galatians 6:8 and Romans 8:13. When a person receives the Holy Spirit they immediately speak in tongues. (See Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-46, Mark 16:17-18.)
