Oldham Foodbank

Oldham Foodbank We support people across Oldham with 3-day emergency food parcels, referred to us by local front-line professionals.

How the Oldham foodbank works:

Food is donated:
Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to the foodbank. All food given out by Oldham foodbank is donated. Supermarket Collections are one of the main ways that food is donated: These are food drives held at local supermarkets where volunteers give shoppers a β€˜foodbank shopping list’ and ask them to buy an e

xtra item or two for local people in crisis. Food is sorted and stored:
Volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need. Frontline care professionals identify people in need
Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB and police identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Clients receive food
Foodbank clients contact the foodbank with details of their voucher. Our volunteers then pick and pack the parcel of 7 days supply of food. Our volunteer drivers then deliver the parcels to the client.

You don't have to be a superhero to fundraise for Oldham Food Bank, but one person basically was this February. Alice Willson ran 160 miles along the Pennine Way in full winter conditions, slept for just 25 minutes, finished 3rd in the women's race and raised Β£1,500 for us in the process. We are still not entirely sure she is human!

If you're thinking about fundraising for us this summer, a bake sale is fine, a sponsored walk is fine, a quiz night at your local is fine. Whatever you take on, big or small, we will be genuinely grateful for every penny raised.

This week a support worker referred a man in his thirties to us who had been looking in bins for food. He was struggling with mental health issues and debt, and had no safety net to fall back on.

A three day food parcel made all the difference. Your donation could do the same.
For just Β£8 a month you could provide a food parcel for someone in Oldham who is in crisis.

This is what Oldham Foodbank looks like on a Wednesday afternoon.

Shelves stocked, bags packed and Sheelagh, one of our incredible volunteers, making sure families across Oldham have food on the table.

Sheelagh gives her time every week so that people in our community don't go hungry. She's one of 70 volunteers who make everything we do possible πŸ’š

None of this happens without the generosity of people in Oldham. If you'd like to help us keep going, you can donate food or funds here: https://localgiving.org/donation/oldham-foodbank/start

6,884.

That's how many children Oldham Foodbank delivered emergency food parcels to in 2025.

Not one of them chose to be in that position. They're someone's child, in a school you'd recognise, on a street you've probably driven down. Many of them have working parents.

All of them were referred to us by someone who knew they needed help.
18,738 parcels in total, delivered across the borough, in one year.

Most people in Oldham don't know it's this bad in their own town. To support our work: https://localgiving.org/donation/oldham-foodbank/start
