✝️Daredevil💥
Daredevil’s comic series started in April 1964.
Specifically, Daredevil #1 (cover date April 1964)
Daredevil is one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic and complex characters, created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett
Matt Murdock is a devout (though often struggling) Catholic, one of the most prominently religious superheroes in mainstream comics. This aspect was present from early on but deeply explored and solidified during Frank Miller’s influential run in the 1980s, particularly in the seminal “Born Again” storyline (issues #226-233)
Raised in an Irish Catholic family, Matt attended Catholic school and has a strong moral compass shaped by his faith. His mother, Maggie, left the family when he was young (due to postpartum issues) and became a nun—revealed dramatically in Born Again
“Daredevil” originated as a childhood taunt. Bullied for refusing to fight back (to honor his promise to his father), Matt’s classmates mockingly called him “Daredevil” for his apparent fearlessness in avoiding brawls.
Matthew Michael “Matt” Murdock grew up in the tough neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. His father, Jack “Battling” Murdock, was a boxer and small-time enforcer who wanted a better life for his son. Jack made Matt promise to focus on his studies and avoid fighting, steering him away from the violent path he himself took.
As a boy, Matt saved a blind man from being hit by a truck carrying radioactive material. The truck swerved, and the chemicals splashed into Matt’s eyes, permanently blinding him but granting him superhuman enhancement of his remaining senses (hearing, touch, taste, smell) and a “radar sense”
Matt excelled in school, became a lawyer
The series is known for its gritty, street-level storytelling, film noir influences
Stories often feature him in churches, confessionals, or praying. His faith adds profound depth—exploring guilt over his dual life, the value of human life, and redemption arcs. In some stories, it’s portrayed as a grounding force amid chaos
