Forgiven, Strong and Victorious
Bible reading: 1 John 2:12–14 (NKJV)
Theme: Three truths for the Christian biker
When we ride our motorcycles, we wear protective clothing, check our tyres, make sure our brakes are working and keep our eyes on the road ahead. We know that preparation matters, because the road can be unpredictable.
But what about our spiritual journey? Are we prepared for the challenges that life brings our way?
In 1 John 2:12–14, John gives us three wonderful reminders about our relationship with God.
1. We are forgiven — verse 12
John writes:
“I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.”
Every biker has a story. We have all travelled different roads, made different choices and, at times, taken a wrong turning.
Life is like that. We have all sinned and fallen short of God's standard. But the wonderful news of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ offers us forgiveness through His death on the cross.
We don't earn that forgiveness by being good people, riding good bikes or doing good deeds. It is a gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ.
Whatever your past, you can come to Him today and receive His forgiveness.
2. We can know God personally — verse 13
John reminds the fathers that they have known Him who is from the beginning, and he tells the children that they know the Father.
Christianity is not simply about attending church, following rules or knowing Bible verses. It is about knowing God personally through Jesus Christ.
Think about riding with a trusted friend. You know their character, you trust them on the road and you are glad to have them alongside you. How much more wonderful to know that, wherever life's road takes us, God is faithful! Through Jesus, we can know Him as our heavenly Father and learn to trust Him day by day.
The greatest journey of all is the journey of knowing Jesus.
3. We can overcome — verses 13–14
John tells the young men that they have overcome the evil one, because they are strong, God's Word abides in them, and they have overcome the wicked one.
The Christian life is not always an easy ride. We face temptation, disappointment, fear and pressure to go along with the crowd; but God has not left us to face these things alone. He gives us His Word to guide us, His Spirit to strengthen us, and His Son as our Saviour.
Just as we need to keep our eyes on the road when riding, we need to keep our eyes on Jesus as we travel through life.
Our victory does not come from our own strength, but from the Lord who saves us and sustains us.
Conclusion: Which road are you travelling?
My friends, 1 John 2:12–14 reminds us that we can be forgiven through Jesus, know God as our Father, and find strength to overcome through Him.
Perhaps you have been riding with Christ for many years. Keep going! Stay close to Him, remain rooted in His Word, and encourage others along the way.
Perhaps you have never personally committed your life to Jesus. Today is an opportunity to turn to Him, receive His forgiveness and begin a new journey with Him.
Our motorcycles may take us to wonderful places, but they cannot bring us eternal life. Only Jesus can do that.
So, fellow bikers, whatever machine you ride and wherever the road takes you, remember this:
Ride safely. Live faithfully. Keep your eyes on Jesus. And travel life's road in the knowledge that, through Him, you are forgiven, loved and never alone.
Closing prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing love and for the forgiveness we have through Jesus Christ. Help us to know You more deeply, to remain strong in Your Word, and to overcome the temptations and challenges we face. Guide us on the roads we ride and the paths we walk. May our lives reflect Your goodness and may we point others towards Jesus, our Saviour and Lord.
In His precious name we pray.
Amen.
