Please do join us. As usual we will have coffee or tea and biscuits after the service.

Last night five of the six churchwardens of The Society churches in Nottingham (St. George’s Netherfield, St George in the Meadows, and us), alongside Father Lee, visited Southwell Minster to be sworn in for service in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. Alas, one was on a well-earned holiday else we'd have had the full set in one photo!

Holy, holy, holy, Lord.

Tomorrow is Trinity Sunday when the Church contemplates and celebrates the mystery of God revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The full nature of God is a mystery which men and women have struggled to grasp and to express, a mystery that inspires us with awe and wonder.

The doctrine of the Trinity affirms that God has been made known in the world in three characteristic ways, as Father, as Son, and as Holy Spirit. The way in which the early church chose to express this mystery was in terms of ‘three persons in one Godhead’.

All are welcome to join us to celebrate Trinity Sunday with our Sung Parish Mass at 11am when our celebrant will be Fr Alan Haydock.

Good news is that we have a priest available for the 11am Parish Mass every Sunday during June. Numbers have been very low in recent months on the 2nd Sunday of the month when a priest hasn’t been available and we have had a lay led service. Please make a special effort to be there on Sunday 14th June when we welcome Bishop Roger Jupp to celebrate and preach. Fr Alan Haydock is with us on all other Sundays during June.

A very big thank you to David for mowing the grass in the front of the church. It looks so much better and a number of people commented on how lovely it looked this morning. Also thank you to Andy and Maureen for continuing to cut up and bag the branches we cut from the bushes a few weeks ago. In the autumn we are going to have another working day to cut back the flowering bushes including the fuchsia which are growing in front of the church windows.

Sung Parish Mass today is at the usual time of 11am when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Fr Alan Haydock is our celebrant this morning. All welcome.

The Day of Pentecost marks fifty days since Easter Day and brings the Easter season to an end. It is a major feast of the Church’s year when Christians recall how God’s Holy Spirit was given to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations.

COLLECT FOR TODAY
God, who as at this time
taught the hearts of your faithful people
by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit:
grant us by the same Spirit
to have a right judgement in all things
and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort;
through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

We have received a number of comments from Netherfield people this last week saying how good it is to see the brickwork at the front of church again after we cut back lots of the bushes on Monday.

A very big thank you to some people from the community who saw what we had done and have been working in the church grounds during the week. It's great that people care about the appearance of our church and have volunteered to help during the week without being asked. It's so kind of people who are not regular members of our congregation to help in this way.

Thank you to Maureen and Andy for removing all the grass and weeds from blue brick path leading up to the church door. It's years since it looked so good.
Thank you to Kyle and others who have helped cut up and clear some of the branches off the bushes. Thank you to Barry who did such a good job on Monday clearing the huge brambles and Japanese anemonies next to the church porch.

Once again thank you also to members of our congregation who helped on Monday.
If it's not raining on Thursday morning, following the Ascension Day Mass, we are going to clear the bushes growing up against the church wall behind the yucca.

Tomorrow morning we will have a lay-led service with Holy Communion from the Reserved Sacrament, from 11 as usual.

There won’t be our usual morning Mass on Tuesday 12th May. Thursday is Ascension Day so there will be an Ascension Day Mass with Hymns at 10.30am with Fr. Alan Haydock.

Thank you to everyone who came and helped today cutting down the bushes and clearing the brambles in front of the church. Thank you also to Lilli who provided a lunch for the workers.

We discovered that there was actually a church building behind those bushes! The brambles and japenese anemones have been cut back at the side of the the church porch exposing brickwork which hasn’t been seen for years. The outside door leading to the chancel at the east end of the building is no longer hidden behind bushes. Some of the bushes and brambles which had grown up in front of the windows have been cut down letting lots of light into the church building. Quite a bit of rubbish including empty bottles and cider cans have also been removed from under the bushes. So much has been achieved today but there’s still lots more to do.

There are now big heaps of branches and brambles on the grass in front of the church to be disposed of. Any help with removing this from our church grounds would be very welcome. Feel free to come and take some of this away for us.

Tomorrow is the 5th Sunday of Easter. We will celebrate with Sung Mass, led by Bishop Roger Jupp, starting as usual at 11am.

On Monday, May Day Bank Holiday we are having a Working Day from 10am to cut back the bushes in front of the church and clear the area of weeds and brambles.

All offers of help would be very welcome! Come with thick gloves and protective clothing as there are some large lethal brambles. If you are not able to help in the church grounds perhaps you could help with some dusting and cleaning inside the church building on that day. Lunch will be provided on this day.

A big thank you to David from St. George’s Centre who recently mowed the front lawn and has kindly offered to keep it tidy for us
