The Sunnah Symposium | 1st Student Meetup

Wednesday 21st October marked the close of the first half term at Al Sharaf Institute and the start of our Student Meetup initiative. As part of our full time ‘Ālimiyyah course, students meet once every half term to listen to seminars related to contemporary Muslim discourse. The first iteration of this was titled ‘The Sunnah Symposium’ a range of discussions exploring key themes in the field of Hadīth.

Shaykh Sufyan’s lecture was on topic of the codification of the Hadīth tradition, examining the historical processes through which the Prophetic narrations were preserved, and transmitted. His discussion highlighted the scholarly endeavours undertaken by the early generations in the formulation of the Hadīth literature.

Shaykh Issarar addressed the doctrine of ‘Adālah al Sahāba (the uprightness of the noble Companions رضي الله عنهم), exploring their significance within the Islamic scholarly tradition and how the Sahāba are the foundations of al-Islām, such that if criticism is possible for them, the entire religion comes into question.

Shaykh Mubeen examined the well-known maxim, “When a Hadīth is Sahīh, then it is my madhhab” in light of the epistle in Fatāwā Riḍawiyyah, al Fadl al-Mawhabī. His discussion considered the relationship between Hadīth authentication and the principles of Islamic jurisprudence, emphasising the importance of understanding such statements within their wider legal context.

Shaykh Naveed Jameel concluded with advice on the responsibilities of the student of sacred knowledge, stressing that the pursuit of knowledge must be accompanied by its practical application. He reminded students of the importance of embodying what they learn through sincerity.

Last month, by the grace of Allāh, Al Sharaf Institute successfully commenced its new academic year with the annual iftitāh ceremony.

Our esteemed faculty (Shaykh Issarar, Shaykh Mubeen, Shaykh Sufyan), under the guidance and leadership of Shaykh Naveed Jameel, shared profound words of wisdom and guidance, marking the beginning of another blessed journey in pursuit of sacred knowledge.

We were deeply privileged to host Shaykh al-Hadīth, Muftī Fazal Subhān al-Qādirī حفظه الله. In a powerful address, he reminded us of the virtues of seeking knowledge and stressed the absolute necessity of rigorous academic discipline. He noted that without a rigorous foundation in the traditional sciences, one cannot truly serve as an authentic representative or spokesperson for the faith.

Shaykh then concluded the session by leading heartfelt prayers for the success of our students and educators.

We humbly request your continued prayers for everyone at Al-Sharaf, that Allāh accepts our efforts in service to the Deen.

Introducing Al-Sharaf Institute’s New Monthly Course Series…

As we begin a new academic year, we’re pleased to introduce a new initiative at Al-Sharaf Institute: a series of monthly courses exploring foundational and beneficial subjects through the works of leading scholars.

Our first course: The Prophetic Pedagogy

Based on the renowned work of Shaykh ‘Abd al-Fattāh Abū Ghuddah, Al-Rasūl al-Mu’allim, this 10-session course explores the beautiful methodology of teaching employed by the Beloved of Allāh ﷺ.

Through studying the Prophetic approach, we’ll reflect on how knowledge was conveyed, and how lessons were taught with wisdom.

Start Date: 17th September 2026

Mawlid Mubarak from everyone at Al-Sharaf Institute!

طَهَّرَهُ اللَّهُ حَمَاهُ اخْتَارَهُ
وَمَا بَرَى كَمِثْلِهِ إِنْسَانَا

وَبِحُبِّهِ وَبِذِكْرِهِ وَالنَّصْرِ وَالتَّ
وْقِيرِ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ قَدْ أَوْصَانَا

Allah made him pure, protected him, and chose him, and never has a person been created like him.

And to love him, remember him, support him, and revere him is a commandment to us from the Lord of the Throne.

Allāh says in the 29th verse of al-Baqarah:

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰٓ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَسَوَّىٰهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ ۚ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۭ

‘It is He who created everything in the earth for you, then He intended to form the sky, so He fashioned it into seven skies, and He has complete knowledge of everything.’

al-Imām al-Suyūtī writes under ‘جميعا’:

‘لتنتفعوا به و تعتبروا’

al-‘Allāmah al-Sāwī mentions in his commentary on the Jalālayn the manner in which benefit can be sought from everything in creation, whether tangibly (ظاهرا) or ecologically (باطنا). As for predatory animals, then their benefit lies in the lessons learnt from them. al-Sāwī concludes by saying that there is nothing that is created except that within its creation, there is a wisdom that embezzles the mind.

In this lesson, Shaykh Issarar Hussain highlights this concept through the example of a vulture, inviting us to reflect upon the remarkable design and purpose evident throughout His creation.
