Hello! In the next few days, we're going to be posting some Autumn diary dates for you, beginning with a service celebrating animals!

We've teamed up with the Anglican Society for the Welfare of Animals for this special event on Sunday 4th October at 10.45 a.m., featuring the combined forces of our amazing Adult and Junior choirs and lots of congregational participation! If you have an animal that's special to you (and won't be stressed by a busy church), then bring them along. Otherwise, come with a picture of any animal, wild or 'pet' that means something special to you.

All ages welcome and included.

The Pentrich Rising of June 1817 was the last armed rebellion to take place in England, as a group of impoverished and desperate workers from Derbyshire, egged on by a government-sponsored agent provocateur, attempted to march on Nottingham and bring about universal male suffrage. The group were met by a detachment of Hussars at Giltbrook (about 6 miles from Nottingham), and rapidly dispersed. Numerous participants were transported to Australia, and three hanged.

The Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters, a number of whose members were involved in the Rising organized a commemorative event yesterday at South Wingfield, at which the Vicar (who is also this year's Master's Chaplain) led prayers to remember all those caught up in this moment of history.

We're delighted to be able to announce the appointment of a new Assistant Organist for St Mary's. George Charman joins us from Chapel Choir of Pembroke College Oxford, where he was Senior Organ Scholar while studying for a history degree, graduating this Summer. Hailing from Worcestershire, George was previously Organ Scholar Tewkesbury Abbey. Everyone here is very much looking forward to welcoming him to the team, from 1st September.

We will be delighted to see you this Sunday at either of our services. Everyone is welcome!
