• Corpus Christi •

This weekend the Church sets aside a day to wonder at a truth we love by all year: that the Lord is really, truly here, present in the Blessed Sacrament.

This is where it all begins. To kneel before the Eucharist is to encounter Christ himself, the One who loves us first and waits for us with open arms. And the same Lord we meet here is the One who sends us out: nourished at this altar, we go to love and serve him in everyone we meet.

Come and adore. Stay a while. Experience his peace, and know his love. 🕊️

Then carry him with you: into the week, into the city and to every person you meet.

“As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love.” (John 15:9)

All are most welcome at Nottingham. Cathedral: believer, doubter, first-timer.

Come and encounter him for yourself.

☕ Two hours there, three days away, and a coffee going cold in his hand. Fr Dominic drove across the diocese for this year’s Clergy Conference and came home just that little bit lighter.

“We’re all in it together,” he says. “We’re not alone.”

This week Bishop Patrick asked something of every priest: don’t carry your parish alone. Gather five or six people who know and love their parish, and take the first steps towards becoming more missionary together. 🌱

This Sunday we keep Corpus Christi, the feast of Christ’s Body and Blood, the Mass that sends us back out to one another.

If you love your parish, the person your priest is quietly looking for might be you.

👋 Welcome to nine weeks with the Diocesan Mission Plan.

Over the next nine Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, we’ll be exploring three words: Encounter. Discipleship. Mission. The three themes at the heart of Go, Make Disciples - the five-year plan Bishop Patrick has set out for our Diocese.

This week, we begin with Encounter: experiencing God’s love. ❤️

Bishop Patrick has chosen this line from John’s Gospel as the Plan’s opening word: “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you.” The Father loves the Son. The Son loves us with that same love. The whole plan begins here, with the truth that God’s love is not earned but received.

Many of us, Bishop Patrick writes, still need to be helped to believe this. So we begin where he begins.

On Thursday, hear the Bishop himself on what to say to someone who can’t believe God could love them. On Friday, we meet a parish living it out.

📜 What do you keep, when you’re keeping the story of a Diocese?

For Fr Kevin, who leads our Archives, the answer is more ordinary than you’d think: baptism registers, parish foundation papers 📖, school logbooks, photographs, letters from priests who served here a century ago. “Pioneers in their own time,” he called them, building from “modest beginnings”.

About a dozen people came to the recent Open Day to see for themselves. What they found wasn’t a museum; it was the long, quiet record of people quietly handing the faith on, one generation to the next. The kind of faithfulness, Fr Kevin said, that the Church is actually built on. 🤍

✨ The team is looking for volunteers. If that’s something that resonates with you, check out the full story in the comments.
