This morning the Dean celebrated Pentecost with us and talked of the creating, connecting and communicating power of the Holy Spirit enabling us to be โ€œtemples of sacred love - to be shared as we seek to live in God and God in usโ€.

We made paper flames to decorate our front windows and shared cake to celebrate the birthday of the worldwide Church.

The following is a poem on Pentecost by Malcolm Guite:

Today we feel the wind beneath our wings
Today the hidden fountain flows and plays
Today the church draws breath at last and sings
As every flame becomes a Tongue of praise.
This is the feast of fire, air, and water
Poured out and breathed and kindled into earth.
The earth herself awakens to her maker
And is translated out of death to birth.
The right words come today in their right order
And every word spells freedom and release
Today the gospel crosses every border
All tongues are loosened by the Prince of Peace
Today the lost are found in His translation.
Whose mother tongue is Love in every nation.

For this yearโ€™s Pentecost Reflections, weโ€™re exploring the signs of the Spirit throughout Scripture. But how is the Holy Spirit connected to Pentecost? And what makes the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost so profound?

Read the article to learn all about the biblical story behind Pentecost, how itโ€™s connected to a key Jewish festival and why Pentecost is described as the birth of the Church ... ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ˜Š Pride In Place โ€“ Drop-In Sessions and Online Survey ๐Ÿ˜Š

Pride in Place is fast approaching. Heartsease and Pilling Park have been awarded up to ยฃ20 million over the next 10 years by the UK Government to improve your neighbourhood โ€” and local people will decide how it's spent. Whether that's improving green spaces, creating new facilities, or supporting local services, the priorities will be set by the community, not the council.

The three guiding principles are:
โ€ข Thriving places: that are greener, safer and better-connected
โ€ข Stronger communities: activities and spaces that bring people together
โ€ข Empowering people to take back control: decisions made by you, not for you

To make sure that your important community voices are heard, an online survey for Pride in Place is now live, asking for your views on what you love about the neighbourhood, and what could be improved. This will help to identify the main areas of priority for the programme moving forward.

Take the online survey here: https://gettalking.norwich.gov.uk/heartseaseandpillingpark/surveys/survey

For those who would prefer a paper copy of the survey, these can be completed at one of the several drop-in sessions at St Francis Church, Heartsease, Norwich and Pilling Park Community Centre over the next couple of weeks, where people can come and meet the team involved, and share their views and ideas through an informal chat. No need to book, just turn up for a chat and a cup of tea. See dates below:

Thursday 21 May โ€“ 10-12am at St. Francis Church, Heartsease
Friday 22 May โ€“ 10-12am at Pilling Park, Community Cafe
Thursday 28 May โ€“ 10-12am at St. Francis Church, Heartsease
Friday 29 May โ€“ 10-12am at Pilling Park, Community Cafรฉ

These are exciting times for our communities. But we need your voices to be heard! The online survey and drop-in sessions are a perfect place to start the conversation.

Learn how to fix a puncture so next time you're out on a ride you don't need to call for help. The Bike kitchen, thanks to some funding, will be able to teach you how to do this on June 6th. See below.

We had a wonderful time last Sunday afternoon at the Eco Church Festival Evensong at Norwich Cathedral, joining with other churches from across the Diocese of Norwich to celebrate Godโ€™s great Creation. We processed out of the Cathedral carrying the beautiful banner crafted by many people from our community from recycled materials.
