Today is Corpus Christi, a day of thanksgiving for the Eucharist. Sometimes known as 'The Lord's Supper', 'Holy Communion' or 'Mass'.
In our liturgy there's a particular line during the Communion Prayer that really sticks out for me:
But what does that mean? For me it's about the fact that we're all connected. That we rely on each other, that when we take Communion we are bound in the Communion of all the saints, that connects us to all who've gone before, and all who will come after.
It talks to me about the hope we have as Christians that in the end, living or dead we are loved and reconciled to God, and that God constantly gives himself to us in the bread and wine.
This Pride month, since the local election results I have noticed increasingly people being more homophobic and more racist on social media. I have noticed that LGBT+ people feel more scared than I remember in my lifetime.
But we must remember above all, that Christ reaches for us, whoever we are in the Eucharist, that we cannot be without one another because that's not how God wants us to be. We're all part of the body, and no matter our race, sexuality, gender identity or ideology each of us is precious and matters to our loving redeemer.
Happy Corpus Christi, may you be blessed today, and I'll see you at 'Mass' or 'Holy Communion' or 'The Eucharist' on Sunday.
