St Stephen's Norwich

St Stephen's Norwich St Stephen’s Church is a quiet space built around community in the centre of Norwich’s shopping area Refreshments afterwards.

St Stephen’s is one of many beautiful medieval churches in Norwich, with a rich history of being bold in faith and open to others. The church is open to visit during the published opening times, and there is an opportunity to see an exhibition of Richard of Caistor. Several small groups meet during the week for Bible study and prayer. Courses such as Alpha and the CAP money course (Christians Agai

nst Poverty) also take place throughout the year. Sundays:

9.15am - alternating Holy Communion and Service of the Word

10.30am- “All-age Worship”: a pattern of worship, teaching and ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit, with provision for children. Onsite, we also run The Café, which is open to all. Open 6 days a week, it offers a different atmosphere and environment to commercial ventures; a peaceful place to come by yourself or with friends and family. We operate this with a guide price, as opposed to fixed pricing, so that everyone can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and a nice cup of tea! The food is all homemade or made on the premises, with many Fairtrade options available. In 2015 the Café celebrated 25 years of service, having opened in 1990 as a joint project with Age Concern.

What a way to end Volunteers’ Week! 🙌

Volunteers from St Stephen's Norwich are transforming and extending a garden space and have secured an area for their tenants that had been used for fly-tipping 🌿

This is the difference volunteers make — practical, lasting, life-changing.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now’s the time. We’d love to have you join us or if you're looking for a paid role take a look at our job vacancy https://www.hopeintoaction.org.uk/operations-and-office-administrator-norwich

Sanctuary in St Stephen’s and Norwich go back a long way, and the idea of places being a refuge goes right back to the time before the Israelites settled in the land of Canaan, when God spoke to them through Moses, telling them to designate certain cities as places of refuge. “These six cities shall be refuge for the people of Israel, and for the stranger and for the sojourner among them…” Numbers 35:15

A-Z of Bible Characters, M is for Moses
read about Moses in Exodus

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

Yesterday, our community worker, Clare, attended the Hope into Action conference. Hope into Action empowers churches to end homelessness, and through Clare’s work, St Stephens’s supports the work of a project. Hope into action visited us in March and you can hear what they had to say on our website.

Here is what Clare had to say about the day.

"We heard great seminars on Strengthening our Theological Roots and Nurturing Faith among those on the margins. Two of our tenants were nominated for an award (they didn’t win) and one of our St Stephens tenants was featured in a presentation."

Clare will be speaking at our 10am service about her community work and work with Hope into Action on 12th July.
