All Saints' - Norton Fitzwarren

All Saints' - Norton Fitzwarren The Church of All Saints dates from the late 13th and early 14th century, it is the centre of the village of Norton Fitzwarren.

The Church has a late 13th century tower made of squared and coursed sandstone with ham stone dressings. Inside the Church there is a very handsome 3:5 bay rood screen with double doors. It is long, relatively low, fan vaulted and canopied, adorned with long projecting cornices to hold the loft. In the nave there are several fine, richly carved bench ends. The stained glass windows depict the Sain

ts such as St Anne, St Anna, St George and St Wilfrid. The south-west corner of the churchyard is said to have been a burying ground for gypsies. All Saints' Church has formed strong links with the Royal Marines at Norton Manor Camp holding Candlelight services before, during and after operational deployments and as a solace to families and the local community of Norton Fitzwarren.

As Lay Pastoral Assistant for this parish my self and our Rector Revd Paul have this morning discussed with Don Wyatt at the village hall how we can place Books of Condolence at various locations in the village. We are working on this now and will post again when arrangements are in place.
UPDATE: We have been fortunate to receive a donation of four bespoke Books of Condolence thanks to Taunton Funeral Services. Will post again when they have been received and will let everyone know where to find them.

FURTHER UPDATE

Books of Condolence
Following local discussion, there will be three books of condolence available from tomorrow and in the coming weeks for people to sign in memory of Jennifer and Stephen:
All Saints' Church 11.30-12.30 on Sundays
The Ring O Bells pub during opening times
The Village Hall Tuesday-Thursday 10-2
Thanks to Taunton Funeral Service for donating the books and to the hosts. Hopefully the times available will give everyone the chance; if not, DM to make a separate appointment.

For those of you who did the Scarecrow Trail back in the summer you may remember these guys dangling from the church tower. Unfortunately Gru is no longer with us but the Minions are, however they are living in the utility area inside the church and are lonely with just each other for company. What they need is a family to look after them and have fun with so All Saints Church council have decided to raise money for Taunton Foodbank by auctioning them off to the highest bidder as at 6.00pm Friday 22nd October. It would be good to let them go as a family but we will let them go singly if necessary. They’re suitable for indoor and also outdoor games as they are filled with straw.
If you would like to have a look at them the church is open this Sunday 17th October for a 4pm service which you are most welcome to join or afterwards at 5pm. From left to right they are Bob, Kevin & Stuart. Please PM me with your bids or post them on the “All Saints’ - Norton Fitzwarren” page. Thanks.

COVID 19 UPDATE

CHURCH SERVICES TO RESUME ON 28TH MARCH 2021

During this current lockdown, Public Worship is permitted if considered safe by individual parish churches.

However, services during were January have been cancelled and the church has remained closed due to the high Covid 19 caseload in this locality.

However, due to the acceleration of the Covid vaccine programme and the continued decline in new Covid cases in our are we have decided that it is much safer now to open up the church for public services. The first service will be on Sunday 28th March at 10.30am and will be a Palm Sunday Communion service. The usual booking procedures will be in place as well as 2-metre social distancing within the church. Face coverings must be worn and we ask you to sanitise your hands both on entry to the church and also prior to taking the communion wafer, using the hand sanitiser on your pew.

We do still hold a dispensation from the Bishop of Taunton to suspend worship at our church should this be required before the end of September 2021.

Please remember our village information evening on this Thursday (18th June) at the church from 7:00pm. We'll run through our plans for raising the much needed money to repair out roof and develop the church building for better community use on the future.

There'll be tea and coffee as well as cider and nibbles available for all.

Hope to see you there.
