Christian Ambulance Association Welcome to the Christian Ambulance Association. Supporting Christians working in the ambulance service Welcome! If you'd like to join please just ask.

The CAA pages provide a forum to share, support and encourage one-another so we can be salt and light to our friends, family and colleagues. We also know what it's like not being able to meet up regularly at Church due to unsocial hours and rotating shifts. We can therefore also share some material and ideas to help one-another with accessing the Bible, teaching and prayer times.

He is risen!

Today, we hear from Rev Steven Herron - Co-Chair and Chaplaincy Lead.

And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.
- Luke 24: 5-7

Black Saturday: The Silence Between

The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how His body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
- Luke 23:55–56

Black Saturday is quiet.

The cross is behind them.
The tomb is sealed.
And heaven seems silent.

There are no miracles today.
No answers.
No visible movement.

Just waiting.

For the disciples, everything feels lost.
The one they followed is gone.
The promises feel distant.
Hope feels buried behind stone.

And yet this is not the end of the story.

Because even in the silence, God is still at work.

What looks like stillness is not absence.
What feels like a delay is not defeat.

Holy Saturday holds that tension we all know at times:
the space between what was and what will be.
The place where prayers feel unanswered,
where clarity hasn’t come,
where we are simply asked to wait.

For those who serve, this can be one of the hardest places to stand.
Not in the urgency of action,
but in the stillness where you can do nothing more.

And yet, this day reminds us:
God is not only present in the breakthrough,
but also in the waiting.

The stone is in place.
The silence is real.
But Sunday is coming.

A question we can all think about.
Where is God asking you to trust Him, even in the silence?

Good Friday: The Hour That Changed Everything

“It is finished.”
John 19:30

At 3pm, the world changed.

This is the hour Jesus breathed His last.
The moment the weight of sin, suffering, and sacrifice reached its climax.

The sky had grown dark.
The earth trembled.
And on a hill outside the city, the Son of God hung on a cross.

Then three words.

“It is finished.”

Not a cry of defeat.
But a declaration of victory.

The work was complete.
The price was paid.
The way was opened.

In that moment, everything that separated us from God
was taken upon Christ and dealt with in full.

No more striving to earn it.
No more barriers to His presence.

Just grace.
Given freely.
Bought at a cost we could never pay.

For those who serve in critical moments, there are times you can do no more.
Times where everything has been given, every effort exhausted.

This is not that kind of moment.

Because where human strength ends,
Christ’s finished work begins.

Good Friday at 3pm reminds us:
This was not the end of hope
It was the beginning of redemption.

What does “It is finished” mean for the burdens you are still carrying today?

Good Friday: Love That Paid the Price

But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

Good Friday is heavy.

The noise of the week fades into something darker.
The betrayal has happened.
The arrest, the trial, the denial.

And now the cross.

Jesus is beaten, mocked, and led to be crucified.
Not because He is powerless,
but because He chooses not to resist.

Every step is intentional.
Every moment, endured.

The cross was not an accident.
It was not a loss of control.
It was love fully expressed, fully given.

He takes on sin that is not His.
He carries a weight that is not His own.
He stands in our place.

This is the cost of redemption.

And as He hangs there, suffering, He speaks words that echo through history:

“Father, forgive them.”

Even in agony, grace.
Even in death, mercy.

For those who serve in the hardest moments of life, this day speaks deeply.

Because you know what it is to stand close to suffering.
To witness pain.
To carry a weight that others cannot.

But this, this is different.

This is the Son of God stepping fully into human brokenness
and taking it upon Himself.

Good Friday reminds us that love is not just words.
It is sacrifice.
It is cost.
It is surrender.

And through that surrender comes salvation.

What does the sacrifice of Christ call you to lay down in your own life?

Maundy Thursday: Love That Serves

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
- John 13:34

Maundy Thursday carries both tenderness and weight.

This is the night of the Last Supper.
The night Jesus breaks bread with His disciples, knowing it will be His last before the cross.

And what does He choose to do with these final hours?

He serves.

He kneels down and washes their feet.
The King takes the place of a servant.
The One with all authority chooses humility.

Even more striking, He washes the feet of Judas,
knowing full well what is about to happen.

This is love in its purest form.
Not based on merit.
Not withdrawn in betrayal.
Not dependent on how it is received.

A love that gives.
A love that serves.
A love that stays.

For those who serve others, this moment speaks deeply.

Because real service is not always convenient.
It’s not always recognised.
And sometimes, it’s given to those who may never return it.

Yet this is the example Jesus sets.

Not just to admire,
but to follow.

Maundy Thursday reminds us that the call of Christ is not simply to believe,
but to love in a way that looks like Him.

To kneel when we could stand.
To give when it costs.
To serve, even in the shadow of the cross.

A question to think about
Who is God calling you to serve with Christlike love, even when it’s difficult?

Spy Wednesday: The Weight of What Was Coming

Then one of the Twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.
Matthew 26:14–15

Holy Wednesday is quiet on the surface.

No crowds shouting.
No tables overturned.
No public miracles.

But in the background, something devastating is unfolding.

A decision is being made in secret.
A betrayal is taking shape.
The path to the cross is being set in motion.

Judas walks away from Jesus—not in a moment of chaos,
but in a calculated, deliberate choice.

And at the very same time, Jesus continues forward—
fully aware of what is coming.

He knows the cost.
He knows the pain.
He knows the betrayal.

And still, He does not turn back.

There is a weight to this day.
A heaviness in the silence.

Because not all turning points are loud.
Some happen in quiet moments, behind closed doors,
where motives are revealed and hearts are tested.

For us, this is deeply searching.

Because betrayal doesn’t always look like rejection.
Sometimes it looks like compromise.
Like choosing something else over Christ, piece by piece.

And yet—even here—grace is present.

Jesus does not lose control of the story.
He is not caught off guard.
He is walking willingly toward the cross,
choosing obedience, even as others choose betrayal.

Holy Wednesday reminds us:

God is still at work, even in the hidden places.
Even in the moments that feel heavy, uncertain, or dark.

A question to think about
In the quiet places of your life, what direction are your choices leading you toward?

Holy Tuesday: Truth That Challenges

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… and… you shall love your neighbour as yourself.
Matthew 22:37–39

Holy Tuesday is filled with tension.
Jesus is questioned, challenged, and tested by religious leaders trying to trap Him.

They ask about authority, taxes, resurrection, anything to catch Him out.

But every time, Jesus responds with truth, clear, wise, and unshakable.

And then He brings it all down to this:
Love God fully.

Love people deeply.

Not partially. Not when it’s easy.

But with everything.

It sounds simple, but it is anything but easy.
Because this kind of love costs something.
It means patience when you’re tired.
Compassion when it’s inconvenient.
Grace when it’s undeserved.

For those serving on the frontlines, this hits close to home.
You don’t get to choose when love is required.
It meets you in pressure, in urgency, in the unexpected.

And yet, this is the calling of Christ.
Not just to know truth.
But to live it.

Holy Tuesday reminds us that faith is not about winning arguments,
it’s about embodying love that reflects God to the world.

A question to think about
Where is God asking you to live out costly love today, not just speak about it?

Holy Monday: Cleansing What Matters

“My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers.”
- Matthew 21:13

On Holy Monday, Jesus walks into the temple and overturns tables.

It’s a moment that can feel uncomfortable.
This isn’t the quiet, gentle image people often expect.
This is righteous anger. This is holy disruption.

The temple was meant to be a place of prayer, encounter, and reverence, but it had become noisy, distracted, and self serving, with animal sellers and currency changers.

So Jesus cleanses it.
Not out of cruelty but out of care.
Not to destroy but to restore what it was meant to be, and the challenge for us is clear:

God is not just concerned with what we do outwardly
He cares about what is happening within.
Our hearts are His dwelling place.

Our lives are meant to reflect His presence.
But sometimes, things creep in.

Distractions. Compromise. Things that crowd out prayer, purpose, and purity.

And in His love, Jesus still overturns tables.

Not to shame us but to make room for something better.

For those who serve others, it’s easy to become busy, stretched, and full but inwardly distant from God.

Holy Monday is an invitation to pause…
and allow Jesus to do His cleansing work within us.

A question to consider
What might Jesus need to overturn in your life to restore what truly matters?

Holy Week: A Week Can Change Everything

Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a c**t, the foal of a beast of burden.
- Matthew 21:5

Holy Week begins not with power as the world expects but with humility.

Jesus enters Jerusalem not on a war horse, but on a donkey.
Not to conquer by force, but to save through surrender.
The crowds shouted “Hosanna,” expecting a king who would overthrow Rome.
But Jesus came to overthrow something far deeper sin, death, and the brokenness within us all.

How often do we expect God to move in strength and spectacle…
when He is working through quiet obedience, sacrificial love, and unseen faithfulness?

For those who serve others, especially in moments of crisis, we know this truth well:
real impact is rarely loud.
It is found in showing up, in humility, in giving yourself for the sake of another.

This is the King we follow.
Not distant. Not untouchable.
But present, humble, and willing to enter into the mess of human life.

And in just one week He will change everything.

A question to consider
Where might God be calling you to choose humility over recognition this week?

🌿🚑 Happy Palm Sunday from UK Ambulance Humour 🚑🌿

Today we pause amidst the sirens and shift changes to recognise and celebrate our Christian colleagues, followers, and communities marking Palm Sunday.

This day remembers a journey of humility, peace, and hope… values that echo quietly but powerfully through ambulance services every single day. From the first call to the final handover, compassion travels with you.

We’d also like to give a special mention to the Christian Ambulance Association, whose work continues to support staff across the ambulance community with faith, fellowship, and encouragement. Their presence is a reminder that behind every uniform is a person who may carry not just equipment, but belief, resilience, and a sense of purpose.

Whether you’re responding to emergencies, supporting patients, or holding the line behind the scenes, your care makes a difference far beyond the moment.

For those observing today, may Palm Sunday bring reflection, strength, and peace. 🌿
For those on duty, may your shifts be steady and your brews strong ☕

As always… look after each other, stay safe, and keep carrying hope forward. 💚
