At St David’s today we’ve been reflecting on what it means to be children of God - loved, called, and sent. Each one of us is blessed to be a blessing, invited to shine as lights in the world.

As we heard in our Gospel reading, Jesus meets people where they are and calls them into a new way of living. That same hope is entrusted to us - not to keep for ourselves, but to carry into the places we go this week.

May we go out ready to shine, ready to bless, and ready to share the hope we have in Him.

🕯️ “Let your light shine before others…”

💛 Celebrating Canon Jane’s Final Service

Today we gathered at St John the Baptist for Canon Jane’s last service as Rector of Kingsthorpe Parish after 16 years of faithful ministry. It was truly a special morning filled with gratitude and affection for all she has given.

Before becoming Rector, Jane served for a number of years as Deaf Chaplain, offering care, advocacy and friendship to so many in our community - a legacy that speaks of a lifetime of service.

As Jane and her interpreter Jackie now step into retirement, it was a joy to celebrate their ministry together today. Their partnership has been a blessing to our parish, and we give thanks for all they have shared with us.

Over 100 people joined us for communion, including friends who travelled from across the country to wish them well - a reminder of the impact Jane and Jackie have had far beyond our parish. It was truly a wonderful turnout.

We send Jane and Jackie our love, gratitude and every blessing for the future. May this next season be filled with peace, joy and new adventures. They leave with our heartfelt love and blessings.

🔔 This Saturday afternoon, from 1.30 to 2.30pm, the bells of St John the Baptist will be rung in a quarter peal to mark the retirement of Canon Jane Butler.

A quarter peal is an hour of beautifully patterned, continuous ringing offered to celebrate a special moment - a joyful sound of thanks and blessing.

As the bells ring out across the parish, we give thanks for Jane’s faithful ministry and pray for her as she begins this new chapter.

🔥🕊 Happy Pentecost! 🎂

This morning we celebrated Pentecost - the moment Christians remember the Holy Spirit being given to Jesus’ followers. It’s often called the Church’s birthday, so of course we had birthday cake!

We explored the two beautiful sides of the Holy Spirit:

🕊 The Dove - a picture of shalom: peace, wellness, forgiveness, and the quiet breath of God.
Before Pentecost, Jesus breathed the Spirit onto his friends - a gentle, profound encounter that brings deep peace.

🔥 The Flames - God’s power, courage, and life-changing impact.
At Pentecost, the Spirit came with wind and fire, showing God’s love in a spectacular way.

Both are true. Both are needed. The Holy Spirit meets us in the quiet moments and the big moments, working through us wherever we are.

We were reminded that Jesus’ words, “Peace be with you,” aren’t just “don’t be afraid” - they’re a promise that we are forgiven, loved, and empowered.

Like any relationship, we keep the channel open through prayer - listening, noticing, and making space for God’s presence.

May the Spirit’s peace and fire be with you this week - wherever you go, and whoever you meet.
