Another reminder that we're not using this page anymore, do "unlike" and "unfollow" us (we won't be offended!) and come find us here instead: St Hilda Marden and St Aidan Billy Mill

For now, here's a picture taken by our placement student from Lindisfarne so you get a taste of the sorts of things we'll be posting on the new page!

We are blessed by the many opportunities offered to our students through their home and placement churches. These have been rich learning environments as we journey together through Advent.

Here's another reminder that we're not using this page, but our new one St Hilda Marden and St Aidan Billy Mill

Make sure you like the new one and unlike/unfollow this page - we won't take it personally as we're suggesting you do unlike and unfollow 😂

So now we're steadily winding down this page, with unfollowing the pages we'd been following here now we've got them all (and more!) on the new one.

See you at the St Hilda and St Aidan page soon!

This coming weekend at St Hilda's: Messy Play, 2pm until 3.30pm on Saturday, and our Patronal Festival celebrating St Hilda at our 9.15am service on Sunday.

Don't forget to like and follow the new St Hilda's and St Aidan's page as that will be where we'll publish what we're up to these days!

Sorry for the late notice -- Rev'd Stephanie has no idea where the last month has gone!

The next Messy Play at St Hilda's is this coming Saturday (15th November 2025) as we celebrate our Patron Saint, St Hilda in our 9.15am service next Sunday.

It'll be lovely to see you!

30/10/2025

This coming Sunday (2nd November) we'll be holding our annual All Souls service to remember those who have died. It's 3pm at St Hilda Marden on Stanton Rd.

If you're around and would find a quiet, reflective service helpful, do join us. The service is very simple, with prayers, a chance to hear your loved one's name read aloud, and to light a candle in memory of them. Teas and coffees will also be provided afterwards should you like to stay a while and chat.

Dear Friends,

for varying reasons it hasn't been as straightforward to change the name of this page, so we've set up a new one here:

https://www.facebook.com/StHildaandStAidan/

Please do like and follow this new one instead, and at some point, this St Hilda's page will be retired.

Thanks for your understanding in the meantime,

Rev'd Stephanie

Rev'd Stephanie and Gill (our Lay Reader in the parishes) were both at this fabulous service welcoming Izzy, Jo, and Bec into their new ministries as Lay Readers 🙏

As well as celebrating the beginning of this stage in our new Readers' ministries, we were celebrating the ongoing ministry of Readers throughout the Diocese. Rev'd Stephanie was very proud to be present and show her support of Readers in the Diocese of Newcastle, Church of England.

Advance notice:

To reflect the connection between St Hilda's Marden with Preston Grange and St Aidan's Billy Mill, the name of this page will be changing to include St Aidan's. This will help us to be more consistent with publicising what we're up to in both churches - maybe even with more than a week's notice! As we'll be adding St Aidan's rather than changing the whole name of this page, existing followers should be able to see when this has happened/our posts going forward.

‘The bishops of the Diocese of Newcastle join their voices to the many expressing horror and dismay at the attacks on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester. We ask for prayers for the victims and for the community affected by this atrocity, and for our Jewish friends in Newcastle and across our region. We stand in solidarity against hate and urge all of us again to commit to peace so that all may live and worship in safety.’

Just a quick reminder of our Harvest Festival services tomorrow, do come along if you can!

Just a quick reminder of our Harvest Festival services tomorrow, do come along if you can!

We're celebrating Harvest on Sunday at St Hilda's (9.15am) and St Aidan's (11.15am). Do come along and bring items for The Bay Foodbank as we give thanks for all the earth and those involved in food production do to get food to our tables.

In this service, as well as giving thanks/recognising what we have and is available to us, we will be praying for those who grow and make our food, for those for whom food is scarce, and for justice and equity so that everyone can have their "daily bread".

With this in mind, Rev'd Stephanie believes that prayer is less about asking God to do things for us and more about opening our eyes and hearts to the parts we can play in the world around us.

In this harvest season, that might look like donating something, perhaps even asking foodbanks what they need most to help their clients, or following your local foodbank on social media to see what they're after and up to.

Foodbanks are always grateful for the donations they receive at this time of year, so anything you can give will be helpful. And did you know? As well as other donation drop-off sites like supermarkets, etc, St Hilda's have a basket at the back of church all year 'round. Perhaps one of those parts we can play might be to add an extra item or two to your shopping list so we can donate throughout the year.

We are pleased to invite you to the launch of the new ‘Jagged Edges’ exhibition on Wednesday 8 October 7pm at Newcastle Cathedral which includes a short service, refreshments and the opportunity to meet the artists.

Drawing on their own experiences of abuse and moral injury in a church context, the artists behind Jagged Edges to make meaningful connections between the familiar story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, and the experiences of those harmed in Christian churches.

These survivors are inviting us to look at Jesus’ trauma and see his story as one of abuse and of God’s love for and solidarity with those who have been abused. They are also reaching out to the rest of the Church with an invitation to engage in the work of healing the broken relationships in Christian communities.

No booking required but please contact Maggi Creese at [email protected] for any enquiries.
