🚸 Hawkeys Lane Zebra Crossing - What’s Your View?

Residents have contacted us about the possibility of installing a zebra crossing on Hawkeys Lane, outside the Methodist Church.

The council has indicated that it does not currently believe there is enough pedestrian usage to justify a crossing at this location. However, we want to hear directly from you on this issue.

Would you support a raised zebra crossing here?

👍 Yes - it would improve safety and make it easier to cross.

👎 No - there are other priorities or concerns.

💬 Please let us know your thoughts in the comments. We will feed back residents’ views to the council.

This week I met with council officers to discuss the ongoing parking issues around Preston Mews and Cleveland Road.

Following the meeting, residents in the surrounding area will receive a letter from us so that we can gather views on the proposed solutions before any decisions are made.

Parking problems can have a real impact on residents, and we want to make sure any changes work for those who live nearby.

If there are any other roads or areas in Preston and Preston Grange where you think parking restrictions, yellow lines or permit schemes should be considered, please let us know in the comments below 👇

🌿 W**d Treatment Update

The Council has confirmed that the first round of borough-wide w**d treatment is currently underway, with crews working ward by ward across North Tyneside.

We’ve already been in touch with officers about a number of locations residents have raised with us where w**d growth is particularly bad and have asked for these areas to be looked at as a priority.

If there are any streets, footpaths or public spaces in our area that you think urgently need attention, please let us know in the comments below and we’ll make sure they are passed on to the team. 👇🌱

🌿 Thanks to everybody who took the time to speak to us today.

This afternoon we’ve been out clearing the Langdon Close cut removing nettles, thistles and overhanging branches to make it easier to use. 🚶‍♂️🌱

We’ve also treated some of the w**ds with an environmentally friendly w**d killer and will be back later in the week, once it’s had a chance to work, to give the area a further tidy up. 🌼

We’ll continue pressing both Savills and the Council about the ongoing maintenance issues there. 💪

We’ve also noticed that the damaged bin on Malvern Road still hasn’t been repaired. We’ve temporarily taped it up and will be reporting it again tomorrow. 🗑️

It was great to see so many residents at today’s surgery and to have the chance to discuss local issues. ☕

As always, if there’s anything we can help with, please get in touch.

🚧 Good news on pavements! 🚧

We’re delighted to have secured a new wave of pavement repairs across our area.

Many of these works will involve replacing broken paving slabs, repairing uneven surfaces and tackling damage caused by tree roots – helping to make our streets safer and more accessible for everyone.

Whilst we’ll continue pushing for much greater investment in our roads and pavements, including the full relaying of some streets that are in particularly poor condition, it’s great to see progress being made on these smaller repairs too.

The latest repairs due to take place are:

✅ Albion Road – outside Pigalos
✅ Cleveland Road – outside No. 80
✅ Cresswell Avenue – outside No. 6
✅ Cromwell Terrace – outside No. 18
✅ Otterburn Road – opposite No. 4
✅ Queen Alexandra Road – outside No. 107
✅ Queen Alexandra Road West – outside No. 134
✅ Queen Alexandra Road West – outside No. 66

If there are other pavements in need of repair locally, please let us know and we’ll continue making the case for further investment in our roads and pavements.

Really pleased that temporary traffic lights have finally been installed at Tynemouth Pool 🚦

Residents contacted us over the weekend raising concerns that the main crossing lights had been taken out of use without any safe alternative being put in place for people trying to cross.

We were straight on to the council about the issue and have now secured temporary lights to make sure pedestrians can cross safely again ✅

Following up this weekend on further reports of dog mess in the back lanes around Alma Place / Cleveland Road 💩

It’s a real shame, especially as we head into summer and children want to be outside playing in their streets, that this continues to be such a persistent problem.

We’ve again asked the Council to deploy mobile CCTV in the area to help catch those responsible, and requested that the lanes are added to the regular patrol route for wardens. Hopefully these extra measures will start to make a difference 🤞

We’ve been out today to the green area behind Beach Road following complaints from residents about rats and rodents in the area 🐀

We completely understand residents’ concerns and nobody wants to see this becoming an issue locally. However, we would ask people please not to put down their own traps or poison. This green space is regularly used by dog walkers 🐶 and children playing ⚽ and unofficial traps could pose a risk to both pets and people.

Any traps that had been left in the area have now been removed.

Having spoken with a number of local residents, including some with allotments across the road, there are increasing concerns that rats may be coming from the sewer system. We’ll be contacting Northumbrian Water tomorrow to report the issue and ask that it is investigated as a matter of urgency. 📞

If residents continue to spot issues in the area, please do let us know. 👍
