Lest we forget

Today, on Orange Victims Day, we pause to remember the 343 Orange Brethren and one Orange Sister who were murdered during the terrorist campaign in Northern Ireland.

Behind each of those 344 lives was a family, friends, a lodge and a community left to carry the pain of their loss.

Many were murdered while serving in the security forces. Others were targeted simply because of who they were and the community to which they belonged.

Today we remember them all, and we think especially of the families and loved ones for whom that loss remains very real.

Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Brethren, Sisters, Juniors, Band members and friends,

As Grand Master, I wish to extend my personal best wishes to you all for a successful, enjoyable and peaceful Twelfth celebration.

In communities right across Ulster, the Twelfth morning is a special time as the Orange family prepare to take part in the biggest day of the year.

Our proud Orange tradition has been passed down from generation to generation for over 230 years and it is indeed a privilege to carry on the cultural practices of our forefathers on this, the 336th anniversary of King William III’s victory at the Boyne.

I wish you all a great day, stay safe in the sun and always be mindful to respect the proud colours we wear.

Good to see Loughries member and assistant grand Master Wor Bro Worthington McGrath make the front page of the orange standard. Bro McGrath was on a trip to the Somme organised by the Thiepval memorial lol 1916 and took part in the memorial service at the orange memorial at the Ulster tower.
