Portavogie Presbyterian Church

On Sunday 19th September 1926 the Moderator of the General Assembly. Rt Rev R. K. Hanna conducted the opening services in the new building for Portavogie Presbyterian Church.

Presbyterians from the locality had worshipped in Cloughey since 1841.
The Rev Daniel Palmer ( minister from 1907-1940) was the greatly respected minister when the building opened.

The ‘New Hall’ as it has always been affectionately known was built in 1925-26 for the princely sum of £1000 with a further £500 to furnish the building.

It has served the Lord’s work faithfully for the last century. Our prayer is that the congregation will continue to honour Christ and preach the gospel in the 21st Century

To celebrate this anniversary a special centenary service will take place on a Sunday 20th September at 10:30am

A threat to gospel freedom

The Christian Institute is holding meetings to address a key issue facing Christians in Northern Ireland today. An MLA has introduced a Private Member’s Bill at Stormont to outlaw ‘conversion therapy’. Definitions in the Bill are astonishingly vague, and threaten to restrict the ordinary work of churches. Prayer, pastoral support, preaching, and parenting that does not affirm a person’s claimed gender identity or sexual lifestyle could be criminalised if the Bill is passed into law.
The Bill has been introduced by Eóin Tennyson MLA of the Alliance Party. The measures are largely copied from a failed proposal that the Scottish Government abandoned over legal concerns.
These meetings will provide more information about the Bill and its likely impact on churches. We will outline what you can do to oppose it, including responding to the public consultation.
