St Ninian's Priory

St Ninian's Priory Welcome to the page for St Ninian’s Priory Parish Church. The Church was known as Candida Casa. The light shines on!

The Christian Gospel was first brought to Scotland by St Ninian who founded his Church here in Whithorn around 397AD. The name derives from the Latin, Casa, meaning house and Candidus/Candida meaning shining or glittering white, referring, possibly, to the stone used to construct it or the whitewash used to paint it. We are proud to say that the work begun by St Ninian continues here today. Our pr

esent congregation has been in a linkage with Glasserton & Isle of Whithorn Church since 1990. Everyone is welcome at St Ninian’s Priory Church

Morning worship takes place every Sunday at 10am. A creche and Sunday School is available during morning worship. Evening services are held from September until May, starting at 6.30pm

There are 168 hours in a week. Many people attend church for an hour on Sunday. Imagine what could happen if people put half as much effort into worship, praise, prayer, love, kindness, generosity, forgiveness, gratitude, etc., as they do into the other 167 hours of the week. What we do OUTSIDE of "church" is more reflective of our faith than what we do INSIDE of "church."

God bless.
