The inaugural Novena to St Carlo Acutis closed on Monday night with a Candlelight Procession to the Lourdes Grotto in the Newry Cathedral Rose Garden. St Carlo often brought flowers to a Marian Shrine near his home.

Our Novena concludes tomorrow night, Monday 12th October, at 7.30pm. 🕯️Join us for the candlelight procession to the Lourdes Grotto in the Cathedral Garden at the closing of the Novena. 🕯️

Our speaker, James Doran is a parishioner of Seapatrick Parish, Banbridge. James is an accomplished speaker who has presented across Ireland, the UK, and the USA. He holds degrees from Maynooth University, St Andrews University, and University College Dublin, with a particular interest in theological and social issues, as well as the early philosophical writings of St. John Paul II.

Our Novena to Saint Carlo Acutis continues on Saturday at 6pm at Newry Cathedral with guest speaker Allen Jophin.

Allen is a Newry native and medical student at Queen’s University Belfast, who is passionate about using creativity and innovation to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

An active member of the Newry Parish community, Allen will speak on the theme “Technology for Good,” exploring how the gifts of technology and innovation can be used to serve others, strengthen connections and bring people closer to Christ.

Inspired by St Carlo Acutis, the Patron Saint of the Digital Age, Allen will reflect on how we can use technology not simply to communicate, but to foster compassion, build community and share our faith.

Come along to discover how technology can become a powerful force for good and a tool for modern evangelisation.

Our Novena continues on Friday evening at 7.30pm at Newry Cathedral.

Our guest speaker will be Fiona McAlinden, Principal of Our Lady's Grammar School, Newry. Fiona, a past pupil of Our Lady's, returned to the school as a teacher in 1998. She was appointed Principal in 2016.

Fiona is Vice-Chair of the Catholic Heads' Association and serves on the Executive Committee of the Post-Primary Principals' Association.

With the forthcoming 200th anniversaries of the founding of the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street, Dublin and the 140th anniversary of the opening of Our Lady's in November 2027, Fiona is determined to keep alive the vision of Mother Catherine McAuley, to “fit young women for earth without unfitting them for heaven.”

Come along and hear from Fiona and to receive a blessing with the Carlo Acutis relic.
