St Mary will receive a £34,913 grant from the National Churches Trust. On the recommendation of the National Churches Trust, the church will also receive a £5,000 Wolfson Fabric Repair Grant from the Wolfson Foundation and a £2,000 grant from the Headley Trust.

These repairs will make the church windtight and waterproof once more.

“This support is a significant vote of confidence in Marshfield and the Gwent Levels, and we are deeply grateful to National Churches Trust," explains Ross Maidment, Ministry Area Leader for the Mountain and Marsh Ministry Area.

"This funding lets us do two things at once: tackle urgent repairs that cannot wait, and work with the community to shape a project that protects this remarkable building and opens it up more fully for local people, schools, music, and events.”

There is much to be excited about at St Mary at the moment as the church – thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund – are on a journey to discover more about the history and heritage at the church with a view to sharing that more widely with the public.

“There is clearly potential here for further growth and for greater engagement in and with Marshfield and the wider Newport community. The building as it stands threatens to limit what can be achieved through not being fit for purpose," adds Cherry Vann, Archbishop of Wales and Bishop of Monmouth.

Too many good moments not to share. ✨

A few more photos from Sunday’s Patronal Festival and Confirmation service at St Mary’s.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special, and to all who came to support our confirmation candidates from across the Ministry Area.

A beautiful day to remember.

A joyful Patronal Festival at St Mary’s today, as we gathered to give thanks for the life and witness of Mary, and to celebrate with those taking the next step in their journey of faith.

Huge congratulations to all those confirmed, with candidates from St Mary’s, Michaelston-y-Fedw and Rudry. It was moving to stand with them as they affirmed their faith, and as the Church prayed for them to be confirmed, anointed and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Our thanks to Archbishop Cherry for being with us, for preaching, presiding, and encouraging us all to live more deeply as followers of Jesus.

🎉 We are thrilled to share that St Mary’s has been shortlisted for the Church and Community Volunteers Award at this year’s National Church Awards!

This wonderful recognition belongs to the many volunteers who give their time, energy and care so generously, helping our church to serve as a place of welcome, worship and community throughout the year.

Currently on our way back to Marshfield after a wonderful coach trip to Oxford. 🚌✨

A real highlight was our tour of Christ Church Cathedral, including time for pilgrimage and prayer at the shrine of St Frideswide.

Huge thanks to Clare Williams for leading us so thoughtfully, helping us reflect on the pattern of St Frideswide’s life and what it might offer to our shared life at St Mary’s:

Gathering.
Praying.
Learning.
Healing.
Journeying.

Pop down to Marshfield Village Hall today, where we’re joining Newport City Council for their free Summer Family Fun Day. 🎨☀️

There’ll be colour, crafts, sport, creativity and activities for all ages.

We’ll also be there chatting about our ambitious £1.3m programme of works and events at St Mary’s, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on how this project can serve our community now and in the future.

A powerful evening at ALT as we turned our hearts and prayers towards persecuted Christians around the world.

It was a privilege to be joined by Steffan Jones from Barnabas Aid - International, helping us understand more of what our brothers and sisters in Christ are facing in places where following Jesus comes at great cost.

We left encouraged and challenged to think about what we can do next:

Raise awareness.
Pray faithfully.
Give generously.

May we never forget those who share our faith but not our freedom.

Great to welcome SPAB | The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings to St Mary’s today for their Faith in Maintenance course.

Caring for historic churches takes skill, confidence and regular attention, so this kind of training is vital in helping volunteers spot issues early, understand traditional buildings, and protect them for the future.

This course forms part of the Development Phase of our The National Lottery Heritage Fund project, helping us build capacity across the Ministry Area and care better for the churches entrusted to us.

Huge thanks to SPAB, and to National Lottery players for making this learning possible.
